2020 CBD TOP 100 COUNTDOWN: 12. TANNER BURNS (AUBURN)

I’ll admit I’m a little biased because I graduated from the same school, but Auburn starting pitcher Tanner Burns is one of my favorite pitchers to watch in the country.

After being drafted in the 37th round of the 2017 draft by the New York Yankees, Burns made the wise decision to play on The Plains.

As a freshman in 2018 he posted a 3.01 ERA in 86.2 innings with 77 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.27.

This past season he had a 2.82 ERA in 79.2 innings with 101 strikeouts, while allowing just 65 hits and 23 walks in 15 starts and one relief appearance in the College World Series.

Injuries cut Tanner’s 2019 season a little short and are really the only concern with the 6-foot right-hander.

He has a power fastball that sits in the mid-90s to go along with a devastating curveball and change-up.

As long as he proves himself healthy in 2020 he’ll be a first-round draft pick.
