I hope everyone enjoyed their Easter Sunday! Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, and ironically our team experienced something quite similar this past Sunday. In the first two games of the series against George Mason this past weekend, our offense ceased to put up any runs and our bats were cold. In Sundayʼs game however, we scored seven runs on 14 hits – it seemed that our bats had risen from the dead. Our pitching staff has been battling all year and giving us a bunch of quality innings so it was nice to finally put some runs up for them to work with! Continue reading
Yesterday afternoon, there was a large fire in the city of Boston which claimed two lives of firefighters that responded to the nine alarm fire. Living in the building was former URI baseball player Chris Pickering and his girlfriend Kayleigh who lost everything in the fire but got out safely. URI Baseball has tweeted out a link to help out the couple. Since the GoFundMe has been set up, they have raised over $4,000 for the couple. Continue reading

SLU received 11 of the 12 first-place votes for 143 points. VCU nabbed the remaining first-place nod and a total of 122 points which was good for second-place, two points better than Rhode Island which placed third. Richmond was slotted in fourth-place with 104 points, followed by the A-10’s newest member George Mason in fifth with 90 points.
Saint Joseph’s (81 pts.) and George Washington (68 pts.) finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, followed by La Salle (60 pts.), Fordham (43 pts.), Dayton (40 pts.), Massachusetts (36 pts.) and St. Bonaventure (29 pts.). Continue reading

AMHERST, Mass. – The UMass baseball team released its 2014 schedule Wednesday afternoon with the campaign slated to open on Saturday, Feb. 22. UMass will face the Army Black Knights in a doubleheader beginning at noon in Cary, N.C. The series finishes the following day as both teams will face off at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
UMass’ early season action will also feature four games against ACC foe Maryland from Feb. 28 to March 2 in College Park, Md. The squad then heads south again to Davidson, N.C., to face Davidson and North Carolina A&T (March 7-9) and will play its second three-game series with Army in Tampa, Fla., March 15-16.
