Three combined errors changed the pace of Sunday afternoon’s game at Sanders Stadium, but two mistakes by Sam Houston State handed the Texas State Bobcats eight runs and a 13-6 victory over the Bearkats. Texas State takes the series 2-1 and improves to 6-3 in Southland Conference action. Huntsville, TX – A six-run lead by the Texas State Bobcats was erased in half its building time by Sam Houston State, but Adam Witek’s lone hit in the ninth inning was enough saving grace to plate Thomas Field and give the `Cats an 8-7 victory over SHSU Saturday afternoon at Sanders Stadium. With the series tied at one game each, tomorrow’s tilt will decide which team will take the higher standing in Southland Conference play.
The Bearkats were the first to score in the afternoon’s contest in the bottom of the second with a pair of doubles from Ryan Trevino and Seth Hammock. The latter grabbed an RBI with his shot down the line to mark Sam’s first tally.

Huntsville, TX – A two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning plated the tie-breaking run and gave the Sam Houston Bearkats a 4-2 victory over the Texas State Bobcats Friday night at Sanders Stadium. The loss drops the ‘Cats to 4-3 in Southland Conference play, now trailing the Bearkats in the race for the top spot in the West division.

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Lamar shortstop Travis Dunson and Southeastern Louisiana starting pitcher Josh Black claimed their first weekly honors of the season, marking two consecutive weeks a Lamar player has claimed weekly honors.

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Southeastern Louisiana out fielder Cass Hargis and Lamar starting pitcher Tim Erickson claimed their first weekly honors of the season, marking four consecutive weeks for a new team and player claim weekly honors.

Southeastern Louisiana outfielder Cass Hargis hit safely in all five games this week, extending his hitting streak to nine games. The Lions’ leadoff batter hit .650 on the week, picked up an RBI in every game and scored in every game but one. The Meraux native had three multi-hit games getting a pair of hits against Jackson State before going 2-for-3 in Southeastern’s conference opener at Stephen F. Austin and posting a 5-for-5 day in game two against the Lumberjacks that saw his first career grand slam. Hargis, who began the week hitting .357 has his average up to .418.
Brandon Belt was 3-4 and drove in 5 runs 3 of those came in the bottom of the first with a shot that went over the 375 foot sign in RCF. Brandon also pitch the 8th and 9th to close out the game and to give Texas the win against another Southland Conference foe. The top of the line up for Texas consisted of Danks, Tucker, and Preston Clark and they scored 7 of those runs.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was Johnathan Farrow as he was 2-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs. Continue reading
Riley Boening worked his longest outing of the year after missing all of last year after having surgery on his shoulder. Boening works 4 2/3 on an inning but just misses out on getting the win. UTSA finally gets to Boening in the 5th for 3 runs and the staff knows that there in no needs to push him. Shinnaberry comes in to finish off the inning. Continue reading
