CBD Top 100 Countdown: 63. Sam Travis (Indiana)

Baseball, head shots, 09/12/12_Mike DickberndWe continue the countdown today with number 63, Indiana third baseman Sam Travis. In his sophomore campaign with the Hoosiers, Travis started all 65 games in a tough Big Ten schedule. During the 2013 season the 6’0” infielder batted an impressive .316 and ranked second in the Big Ten with 22 doubles, 57 RBI, 10 homeruns, 133 total bases and 39 walks. Travis earned a Second Team All-Big Ten selection and helped lead the Hoosiers to their first College World Series appearance in program history. Along the way the third baseman earned Most Outstanding Player awards at both the Big Ten Tournament and the NCAA Bloomington Regional. Continue reading

Purdue releases 2014 Schedule

PurdueLogoWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — As many as 17 home dates at Alexander Field, including four home weekends, highlight Purdue baseball’s 2014 schedule, unveiled by head coach Doug Schreiber.

The Boilermakers are scheduled to host Penn State (April 4-6), Michigan (April 18-20), Ohio State (April 25-27) and Iowa (May 15-17) for Big Ten weekend series at home. Weather permitting, Purdue will open its home schedule on either March 19 (opponent TBA) or March 25 (IPFW). Continue reading

CBD Top 100 Countdown: 79. Cam Gibson (Michigan State)

CamGibsonCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today at number 79 with Michigan State outfielder Cam Gibson. In his first season with the Spartans, Gibson fit right in as part of the talented starting nine. In his 40 games started, Gibson collected 53 hits, 17 RBI and 12 stolen bases and hit to a .325 BA. His average was good for 3rd on the team and was a huge contributor to Michigan State’s 33-17 record. Continue reading

Penn State releases 2014 Schedule

James CoatesUNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State baseball has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2014 season. The Nittany Lions are set to host four Big Ten opponents in Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State. PSU will travel to Purdue, Ohio State, Minnesota and Nebraska to complete its Big Ten slate. The 2014 season will be the first at Penn State for head coach Rob Cooper. Continue reading

Minnesota releases 2014 Schedule

JohnAndersonMinnesotaFeatured2Head coach John Anderson has announced the University of Minnesota baseball team’s 2014 schedule. The Golden Gophers will open their 126th season on Feb. 14.

With the Metrodome being torn down to make way for a new stadium, Minnesota will have a full slate of non-conference games on the road or at neutral sites before opening its home season at Siebert Field in late March. The Gophers start 2014 by hosting a series against Northern Illinois in Glendale, Ariz., Feb. 14-16. They will also be the home team against Creighton in Fort Myers, Fla., Feb. 21-23. Iowa announces 2014 Schedule

IowaBaseball_thumb.jpgIOWA CITY, Iowa — First-year University of Iowa baseball coach Rick Heller announced the details of the 2014 spring schedule Tuesday. The Hawkeyes’ 53-game slate includes 16 contests against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams and 22 games at Banks Field.

Iowa opens the season at Austin Peay for the second-straight season, facing the Governors on Feb. 14-16 in Clarksville, Tenn. Austin Peay posted a 47-15 record in 2013, earning its third-straight Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title and NCAA berth. Continue reading

Michigan State releases 2014 Schedule

JakeBoss_thumb.jpgEAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State baseball coach Jake Boss Jr. announced the Spartans’ 2014 schedule today (Wednesday). The 56-game slate includes five opponents that took part in last season’s NCAA Tournament, including three that advanced to the College World Series. MSU will open the season Feb. 14 in Cary, N.C., and it will play its first of 21 home games on March 21 when it opens Big Ten play with Ohio State.

“I think it’s another very competitive schedule,” said Boss. “I think our schedule in the past couple years has both helped our ball club improve and get better as the season goes on, as well as given us a chance to play in the postseason and the NCAA tournament. I think there’s a good balance of games in there that are high-RPI games that will help us put us in the position to play in the postseason.” Continue reading

Michigan releases 2014 Schedule
