MLB Cheating Scandal not just a Pro Problem

As basically everyone has seen, the Boston Red Sox have fired Alex Cora (don’t tell me it was a mutual parting of ways) and the Astros have gotten rid of AJ Hinch and GM Jeff Luhnow.

When these two stories broke, I received multiple texts from current and former coaches stating that Miami (FL) was doing the same thing in the past with stealing signs.

Back in 2014, the Hurricanes were accused of using walkie-talkies on a parking garage during the 2014 season by Florida State in a televised game. Florida State legendary manager stated that he had heard from Arizona State’s Pat Murphy and Georgia Tech’s Danny Hall but both declined comment to the Miami Sun Sentinel (LINK). The ACC eventually said there was no evidence of it and washed their hands of it. Even though, cheating has always been a major issue though with the Miami program as they were placed on probation for running Illegal camps for recruits (LINK) and having their baseball strength coach caught up and fired for showing up in the records of the Balco business records. Miami supposedly investigated and tested every athlete which came back clean.

Of course, I had forgotten that Alex Cora played for Miami, FL in 1994-1996. Did Cora learn a form of this tactic during his college days under Coach Morris? I don’t know but it seems to be a common thing that many of the MLB cheating scandals have a connection going right through Coral Gables.

Is Miami the only program running shady practices? Hell no! This is rampant across college baseball with the advance of video technology and if the MLB teams are doing it, we all know it has slipped into the top programs in the country.
