BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Home games with SEC foes Alabama and Mississippi State, along with the always challenging Southern Conference schedule highlight the Samford baseball program’s 2019 schedule, released by the athletics department Monday.
The Bulldogs open the season with a three-game series at South Florida, Feb. 15-17. The team will play its home opener Feb. 19 against North Alabama, and then host Xavier in a weekend series, Feb. 22-24. The Bulldogs will then play their next five games on the road, travelling to Alabama State (Feb. 26), Georgia State (Mar. 1-3) and Jacksonville State (Mar. 5).
Samford will then host Alabama State (Mar. 6) and a three-game series with Kennesaw State (Mar. 8-10). After a trip to SEC power Vanderbilt (Mar. 12), Samford will host a three-game series with Maine (Mar. 15-17) and a single game with Mississippi State (Mar. 20).
The Bulldogs will open Southern Conference play by hosting Furman for a weekend series (Mar. 22-24). Samford will then play at cross-town rival UAB, Mar. 26 at Regions Field. Next up is a road SoCon series at VMI (Mar. 29-31).
Samford will then play its next seven-straight games at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs will host UAB (April 2), UT Martin (April 5-7), Alabama (April 9) and The Citadel (April 12-14).
After a road game at Troy (April 16), Samford will host a SoCon series with UNCG (April 18-20) and midweek games against Alabama A&M (April 23) and Troy (April 24). The Bulldogs will then travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Wofford in a SoCon series (April 26-28).
After a home game with Jacksonville State (April 30), Samford will play a league series at Mercer (May 3-5). The Bulldogs will then host a SoCon series with Western Carolina (May 10-12). After a road game at Alabama (May 14), Samford will wrap up the regular season with a series at ETSU (May 16-18).
Samford will attempt to defend its 2018 SoCon Tournament title at the 2019 event, scheduled for May 21-26, in Greenville, S.C.
