BOSTON – Preparing to lead the Northeastern baseball team to its second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance following the success of the program’s historic, record-breaking 2018 campaign, fifth-year head coach Mike Glavine announced the Huskies’ complete 2019 schedule on Wednesday, marking the path through which his squad will seek to defend its 2017 and 2018 CAA regular season titles.
Northeastern is scheduled to play 10 games against five programs that earned 2018 NCAA regional berths alongside the Huskies. NU will contest three-game road series at Florida Atlantic (March 8-10) and UNCW (April 12-14), oppose Connecticut and Indiana during a four-day, neutral-site weekend at Coastal Carolina (March 1-4) and open New England play at Hartford (March 12), which won the 2018 America East championship.
For the first time since 2014, Northeastern will visit Houston Baptist, where the Huskies will open their 2019 schedule on Friday, Feb. 15.
Before February ends, NU will bump into Missouri (Feb. 21) at Chain of Lakes Park in Fort Myers, Florida, for a rematch of the two teams’ four-game set during 2018, which was split evenly at two games apiece. The neutral-site clash will immediately precede the Huskies’ Feb. 22 spring training exhibition game against the defending World Series champions – the Boston Red Sox – at JetBlue Park.
Northeastern will begin its home schedule at Friedman Diamond on March 16, when the Huskies host a doubleheader against Holy Cross. NU will also welcome Boston College and Rhode Island to Brookline on March 19and March 27, respectively.
Of its eight CAA series, Northeastern will host Delaware (March 29-31), Hofstra (April 5-7), College of Charleston (April 19-21) and James Madison (May 10-12) at Friedman Diamond this spring. In addition to visiting UNCW, the Huskies’ road sets will include trips to William & Mary (March 22-24), Elon (April 26-28) and Towson (May 16-18).
Northeastern will begin the quest for its first Beanpot title since 2013 on Tuesday, April 2, when the Huskies battle Harvard during the tournament’s opening round at Boston College’s Harrington Athletics Village. The final round is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 17, at a location yet to be named.
