As a matter of fact, 20% of the Golden Spikes Award semifinalists will lead their teams in the Nashville Regional hosted by Vanderbilt. You will be hard pressed to find a better group of frontline starters than those packed together in this regional. Kevin Ziomek, Tyler Beede, Buck Farmer, Kevin Duchene, and Kerry Roane will all do their best to make Nashville a low-scoring affair while the likes of Tony Kemp, Daniel Palka, Zane Evans, Justin Parr, and Clinton Freeman know that a great offense is key to a memorable postseason run. SEC Tournament Game Sixteen: Vanderbilt vs. Mississippi State

In an elimination game that would send one team packing and one team to the championship, top-seeded Vanderbilt defeated the reigning SEC Tournament champions of Mississippi State 16-8 in an offensive slugfest on Saturday afternoon.

There were 33 combined hits in the game with over twenty players total reaching base including Vanderbilt’s Zander Wiel, Conrad Gregor, Connor Harrell and Xavier Turner who all had three hits in the game in addition to Mississippi State’s Hunter Renfroe.  Continue reading

SEC Tournament Game Fourteen: Vanderbilt vs. Texas A&M

In a rematch of a game that saw top-seeded Vanderbilt fall to nine-seeded Texas A&M earlier in the tournament, the Commodores defeated the Aggies 3-0 on Friday evening to eliminate Texas A&M from the tournament.

The Commodores’ performance in Friday night’s game made it evident as to why Vanderbilt is the unanimously top-ranked team in the country. Offensively, the Commodores were able to put up fourteen hits, defensively they did not have a single error, and on the mound Vanderbilt’s Tyler Beede pitched a two-hit gem to lead the team to victory. SEC Tournament Game Ten: South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt

A Twist on the Bracketsec_baseball_13

As top seeded Vanderbilt met up with the four seed of South Carolina, it was an expected matchup with how the bracket was set up, but on the other side of the bracket. As both teams had lost their opening games, they met up in an elimination game faced with the reality that one of these teams would be going home earlier than expected. It took extra innings to decide, but eventually Vanderbilt sent South Carolina back to Columbia with a 4-3 win over the Gamecocks. Continue reading

#8 Florida (29-27, 14-16)

Florida was one of the top teams in the SEC three weeks ago coming off of three straight series wins. However entering into the SEC Tournament, the Gators head to Hoover following three consecutive series losses. If Florida can get back to the baseball they were playing three weeks ago, it would strongly help the Gators as they hope to show the selection committee that they truly deserve a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
