FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State outfielder Mark Hudson has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and UT Arlington right-handed pitcher Jason Mitchell has been named the Southland Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Foley’s Weekend Thoughts

GriffinUSD I apologize for not giving you some thoughts from Saturday night but I had some other commitments come up around here.

Tyler Holt from Florida State hit for the cycle on Sunday in a 9-5 victory over the Maryland Terps. Holt picked up a single in the first, double in the second, triple in the third, and hit a homer in the fifth. Holt said the following about the cycle "It felt good, I got some good swings in. The first two hits – the single and the double – went my way and then I finally got some good swings and got the last two." Coach Mike Martin was fired up about the cycle as he stated: “There are two things that really fire me up when I am watching a game – a no-no and the cycle. That fired me up. I will be honest with you, I don’t go to rock concerts but I guess they light the lighters – I would have lit a lighter on that one."

After tying the mark Friday, the Lions broke it Saturday, taking their 11th straight game to improve to 11-0 on the year. The 4-1 victory over Texas Southern also clinched the series for Southeastern.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After trailing the majority of the game, Texas State spurred a four-run eighth-inning rally and earned its first win of the Southland Conference season with a 5-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday night at Bobcat Field.

Texas State improves to 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in league play, while A&M-Corpus Christi falls to 5-3 and 0-1, respectively.
