The UNC Wilmington Seahawks picked up a 5-3 loss to Georgia State on Friday. Drew Grant pitched 6.1 innings while only allowing 2 hits and three runs to get the victory. UNC-Wilmington starter Bradley Holt lasted 7.1 innings and gave up five runs (all earned) on seven hits. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers knocked off UNC-Wilmington for the second time this year by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday. Chris Raber led the offense for Coastal Carolina with three hits and held off a late charge to win by a single run. The Seahawks were down 7-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth but picked up three runs to account for the final scoreline. Nick McCully picked up his second collegiate victory without a loss yet by pitching 5.0 innings while allowing three hits and no earned runs. The Colonial Athletic Association has released their current players of the week for the period ending on March 12th. George Mason first baseman Justin Bour had a great week in which he went 10-20 at the plate for a .500 average to pick up the Player of the Week award. He also picked up seven home runs on the week (three grand slams), nine runs scored, and only drove in 19 runs. Jeff Hatcher of UNC-Wilmington picked up the Pitcher of the Week award with a complete game three hit shutout on Saturday over VCU. Hatcher’s teammate Daniel Cropper picked up the Rookie of the Week with a 8.1 innings of work on Sunday while only giving up three runs.
After giving up 13 runs on Friday, The UNC-Wilmington Seahawks shutout the VCU Rams 3-0 in CAA action. Jeff Hatcher of UNC-Wilmington pitched a complete game shutout to get his second victory of the season. Senior catcher John Batts went 2-2 at the plate with two RBI’s to lead the hitting attack. The teams play the rubber game tomorrow at 2 pm.
The VCU Rams used a 17 hit attack to destroy the defending CAA conference champion UNC-Wilmington Seahawks by a score of 13-3. Jared Bolden lead the Rams with a 3-4 performance to continue his hot start to the season. Richard Gonzalez and Sergio Miranda also picked up three hits a piece in the victory. The teams will be back in action Saturday with a 4pm first pitch.
The UNC-Wilmington baseball team was able to pull out a 16-11 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in 12 innings. This victory broke a four-game losing streak for the Seahawks. Wake Forest made a brilliant comeback when they were only two outs away from defeat. They scored 3 runs to force extra innings where it stayed scoreless until the top of the 12th. With a tie score in the 12th, Matt Holt led the inning off by striking out but reached on a wild pitch. Daniel Hargrave then followed with a sacrifice bunt to send Holt to second. Steve Halford then doubled down the left field line to drive Holt in for the lead run. Mark Carver then walked to set up a first and second situation. Nate Hall then hit a single through the infield to drive in Steve Halford. Grayson Evans then hit into a fielders choice to send Jonathan Batts to the plate with first and third. He then hit a three run homer to give us the final score. Wake Forest pitcher Ben Hunter picked up the loss after going 3.0 innings and allowing all five runs. His record is 1-2 this season. UNC-Wilmington pitcher Allen Floyd picked up his third win of the season against no losses by going 4.1 innings while blowing the three run lead in the ninth. Wake Forest is back in action on Tuesday with Gardner Webb while UNC-Wilmington will visit the Phoenix of Elon.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons picked up a 11-2 victory over UNC-Wilmington in collegiate baseball action in Winston Salem, NC on Saturday. Brett Linnenkohl led the Deacons at the plate with a 4-4 game including a two run homer in the 3rd inning. Eric Nielsen continued his strong start to the season with 7.0 innings pitched and letting up three hits and two runs (only 1 earned) to pick up his second victory of the year. Both teams will face off again on Sunday.

The Virginia Cavaliers picked up a 10-4 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday. Jacob Thompson lasted 6.0 innings while giving up one run and striking out eight for his fourth straight victory. Patrick Wingfield hit a grand slam in the third inning to provide the offense for the Cavs as this victory give the Cavaliers a 13-1 record. Delaware drops to 0-5 on the young season. Both teams will face off tomorrow in the series finale.
The UNC-Wilmington Baseball team heads to Wake Forest for a three game weekend series. The Seahawks enter the series coming off a loss to NC State on Tuesday evening while Wake Forest is coming off an exciting walk-off victory also on Tuesday with Charlotte. The pitching match-ups are Wake Forest pitcher Brad Kledzik (0-1, 5.40 ERA) facing Ryan Doolittle (0-0, 3.68) on Friday. The Demon Deacons will send Eric Nielsen (1-0, 4.05 ERA) to the mound on Saturday to face Bradley Holt (1-1, 7.43 ERA). The series finale will have Wake Forest sending Garrett Bullock (1-0, 1.50 ERA) facing UNC-Wilmington’s Daniel Cropper (1-1, 5.51 ERA).
