The way infielder Logan Pierce sees it, the Trojans of Troy University have a simple policy:
“We’re not a bunting team. We’re not just trying to move guys over, we want to score.”
And score they have. 23 games into the season, the Trojans have crossed the plate 191 times, second only to South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending February 17 today. Troy junior outfielder Danny Collins was named National Hitter of the Week, while Georgia Tech senior right-handed pitcher Buck Farmer was named National Pitcher of the Week. NEW ORLEANS – The Florida Atlantic Owls have been tabbed as the preseason favorites to win the 2013 Sun Belt Conference baseball title, the league announced on Monday.
FAU won the SBC regular season title in 2012 behind a 32-22 overall record and a 19-8 record in SBC play. This season, the Owls return six starters from that squad and four starting pitchers, including 2013 All-SBC Preseason selections pitcher Austin Gomber and first baseman Mark Nelson. We continue the countdown today at number 83 Danny Collins from Troy University. The 6’2 205 pound junior infielder from Niceville High School in Niceville, Florida. The Troy Trojans have struggled at the plate during the first two weeks of the season scoring only five runs in their previous three games. NEW ORLEANS – The Panthers of FIU and the Trojans of Troy have been tabbed as the preseason favorites to win the 2012 Sun Belt Conference baseball title in a vote of the league’s head coaches.
FIU, which finished second overall in the standings in 2011, returns five starters to an offense that led the SBC in batting average, home runs and runs scored. The Panthers finished last season 20-9-1 in conference play. FIU received four first-place votes from the coaches and finished with 93 points.
