AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward’s rallied from four runs down in game two to sweep a doubleheader from #22 Incarnate Word Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. St. Edward’s won the first game, 4-3, and rallied to take game two, 9-6.

With the two victories today, St. Edward’s is now tied with Incarnate Word for third place just a half game out of first place.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team gained a split over #22 Incarnate Word Friday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers got a walk-off RBI-triple from sophomore Dylan Schuch in game one to win, 4-3. In the second game, senior Brett Friemel pitched a brilliant game was the hard-luck loser, as St. Edward’s fell, 4-3.

St Edwards falls to Angelo State

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team took a one-run lead into the top of the ninth inning but they could not hang onto the lead and fell to #12 Angelo State, 11-5, Tuesday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

St. Edward’s (12-10) got on the board early in this bout with Angelo State (17-7). Center fielder Dylan Schuch led off the game with a single up the middle and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Daniel Rufini.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Hilltoppers scored over twenty runs in each of their games against Panhandle State Friday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. St. Edward’s won the first game, 23-8, and took the second contest, 24-3.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Hilltoppers overcame strong windy conditions and a poor defensive performance to take the rubber game of a three-game set with UT-Permian Basin, 7-4, Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

On a blustery day, UT-Permian Basin (13-5, 10-4 HC) looked sharp in the early going. Falcon starter Drew Kendrick (3-2) was especially sharp. He was nearly perfect during his first two innings of work. Kendrick kept St. Edward’s (8-9, 7-7 HC) scoreless during his first two innings of work, allowing only one run and striking out three Hilltoppers.

St Edward’s Hilltoppers split with UT-Permian Basin

AUSTIN, Texas – Bret Friemel’s outstanding performance on the mound in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader with UT-Permian Basin helped St. Edward’s earn a split. The Hilltoppers dropped the first game, 10-4, and claimed victory in the second contest, 3-0.

In game one, UT-Permian Basin (13-4, 10-3 HC) got on the board first. The Falcons scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The big blow came on a two-run home run to right field by designated hitter Chris Hook. Read the rest of this entry »

Lincoln (1-6, 1-6 HC) got on the board first, scoring a run in the fourth inning. Third baseman James Johndrow drew a walk and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from second baseman Seth Blackwell.

In game one, both teams got off to a slow start offensively but it was St. Edward’s (5-4, 4-2 HC) that got on the board first. The Hilltoppers scored two runs in the fourth inning, courtesy of a two-run home run to left center field off of the bat of right fielder Justin Shufelt.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team took two games from Newman Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers took the first game, 13-1, and claimed victory in the second contest, 5-1.

In game one, St. Edward’s (4-3, 3-1 HC) took advantage of an absolute offensive explosion. The Hilltoppers scored 13 runs on 15 hits. They did not even need nearly this much offensive firepower because they held Newman (1-3, 1-3 HC) to only one run.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team dropped the final game in their season-opening series with #6 Southern Arkansas Monday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers lost the rubber game in this series, 8-6.

Southern Arkansas (2-1) got on the board first. Shortstop Adam Whittington opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a RBI single to right field. The Mulerider’s tacked on another run in the fifth inning. Second baseman Cannon Lester drove in a run on a double down the left field line.
