Conference USA Weekend Preview (April 1st-3rd)

CUSA enters its second weekend of conference play with four teams tied for first with 2-1 conference records. Nationally, after last week’s thrashing of Tulane, Southern Miss enters the weekend at #28 while Rice—after dropping its first series ever to UCF—has dropped to #25. Continue reading


Conference USA Weekend Recap (March 25th-27th)

This past weekend marked the opening of conference play for CUSA, with Houston the odd-man out taking on in-state rival #11 TCU. Down in Hattiesburg, MS, #30 Southern Miss kicked off conference-play by exploding for 43 runs against visiting Tulane. The Golden Eagles notched 45 hits, reached double-digit scores in all three games, and capped off the series by run-ruling the Greenwave 12-0 in 7 innings. The ‘Wave pitching staff didn’t help their own cause, giving up 19 free passes and having no pitcher go longer than 4 innings (which was their closer RHP Nick Pepitone in Game 2), while the defense managed three errors in each game. Southern Miss LF Tyler Koelling, led the onslaught by hitting .500 (6-12) belting 2 homeruns and driving in 11 runs. Not to be outdone, Golden Eagles 1b Adam Doleac notched 9 hits on the weekend, elevating his average on the season to .378. Continue reading


2011 CBD Season Preview: Conference USA

When the 2010 baseball season ended in Conference USA, Rice had regained its traditional position atop the league standings in the regular season, but saw Southern Miss claim the postseason tournament title. Those two schools again top the preseason polls for the 2011 season. Continue reading


NCBWA Releases 2011 Stopper of the Year Watch List

Wichita, Kan. (NCBWA) — Forty-five players have been named to the initial watch list for the seventh annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, as announced by the association Tuesday.

Southern Miss Announces Expansion Plans for Pete Taylor Park


HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball program announced an expansion plan for its playing facility, Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field, at its annual preseason banquet Saturday night at the Thad Cochran Center.

The expansion will add 1,358 new seats, including 220 deluxe chairbacks and 1,138 bench seats, as the length of the grandstand will expand beyond the reaches of each dugout. Continue reading

2011 Conference USA Preseason Poll

Conference USA announced its 2011 preseason baseball awards, as chosen by the league’s nine head coaches. Rice junior third baseman Anthony Rendon was chosen as the preseason Player of the Year, while Southern Miss senior right-hander Todd McInnis was named the preseason Pitcher of the Year. Rendon has been named C-USA Player of the Year each of the last two seasons, while McInnis was the Pitcher of the Year in 2009. Continue reading


2010 NCAA Baseball Attendance Leaders

The NCAA released their 2010 NCAA Baseball Attendance Figures which is led by four SEC schools. The LSU Tigers lead the pack with an average of 10,673 fans in 37 games. Arkansas comes in second with 7,704 fans while Ole Miss comes in third with 6,759 fans edging out fourth place South Carolina by an average of one fan.
