SE Missouri State releases 2011 Schedule

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – Southeast Missouri State baseball coach Mark Hogan has released the schedule for the 2011 season.

The Redhawks will open up the season in Lafayette, La. against Louisiana-Lafayette. The season will begin on Friday, February 18 at 6 p.m. “Louisiana-Lafayette has a very storied program, and this early test will not only help us, but give our injured players from last season a competitive early matchup,” said coach Hogan. SE Missouri adds Josh Stoetzel to Coaching Staff


StoetzelSEMissouri CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO.- The Southeast Missouri baseball team has completed its coaching staff with the recent addition of Josh Stoetzel.

Stoetzel will be a volunteer coach for the 2010-11 season. He graduated from Oswego State University where he played catcher and first base. He hit .360 in two seasons for the Division III school. This past season, Stoetzel coached at Oswego State.

Steve Bieser named Assistant Coach at Southeast Missouri


SteveBieser CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri head baseball coach Mark Hogan has announced the hiring Steve Bieser as his pitching coach.

"Steve is a great hire for our program," said Coach Hogan. "Being able to bring one of our alumni back to work with our organization is very exciting. His successes at every level of baseball speak for themselves. His leadership and player development skills are exceptional and we welcome Steve and his family back to Cape Girardeau."

BATON ROUGE — An eight-run LSU second inning along with homers by designated hitter Matt Gaudet, second baseman Tyler Hanover and right fielder Mikie Mahtook lifted the top-ranked Tigers to a 13-7 victory over Brown Friday night in Alex Box Stadium.

LSU (9-0) has won nine straight games to start the season for the second year in a row. Brown falls to 1-1 with the loss.

FloridaRecap BATON ROUGE – Home runs by first baseman Blake Dean and catcher Micah Gibbs, along with a brilliant LSU debut by starting pitcher Joey Bourgeois led the second-ranked Tigers to a 4-0 shutout of Centenary Sunday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium.

With the series sweep, the Tigers (3-0) captured their 11th-straight season-opening series victory dating back to 2000. Centenary dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

The Tigers will be back in action Wednesday when they face in-state foe McNeese State at 4 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.

MattGaudetLSU BATON ROUGE — Led by a two-homer performance by designated hitter Matt Gaudet and a six-RBI evening by first baseman Blake Dean, second-ranked LSU exploded for 23 hits en route to 25-8 victory over Centenary, giving head coach Paul Mainieri his 1,000th career victory Saturday night in Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers (2-0) scored the most runs of any LSU team since 1999 when they defeated Ohio 26-5. Centenary dropped to 0-2 with Saturday’s loss.

RanaudoLSU BATON ROUGE — A two-RBI performance by shortstop Austin Nola, including the game-winning sacrifice fly, coupled with three runs by left fielder Trey Watkins was enough to earn No. 2 LSU a 5-4 victory in front of a record-breaking crowd of 9,914 Friday night at Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers (1-0) won their ninth consecutive season opener dating back to 2002. With the loss, Centenary dropped to 0-1 on the season.

2010 Preseason Ohio Valley Conference Poll and Team


OhioValleyConference_100 BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Fresh off the 2009 OVC Regular Season Championship, Eastern Illinois has been picked as the 2010 preseason favorite for the nine-team league in a vote of Ohio Valley Conference head baseball coaches. In additional voting, Morehead State senior shortstop Drew Lee and Eastern Kentucky junior third baseman Jayson Langfels were named OVC Preseason Co-Players of the Year while Murray State senior Chris Craycraft and Eastern Illinois junior Josh Mueller were tabbed OVC Preseason Co-Pitchers of the Year.
