Top 100 Countdown: 64. Austin Kubitza (Rice)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 64 with Rice sophomore RHP Austin Kubitza. The Colleyville, Texas native attended Heritage High School where he was a three-year letterman and two-year varsity starter for head coach Alan McDougal. His senior year saw him go 8-2 on the mound with a 2.28 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 64 innings. He was also an accomplished hitter with a .354 batting average with a .687 slugging percentage and 32 RBI in the Panthers’ 33 games. He picked up several honors including being named Second team 5A all-state pitcher, Member of the Texas HS Coaches Association North All-Star team, and named most valuable player honors in District 5-5A. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the seventh round of the 2010 MLB Draft but were not able to come to an agreement with him. Continue reading

Top 100 Countdown: 94. Andrew Stumph (Texas State)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 94 in Texas State junior Andrew Stumph. The 6’0 210 pound catcher out of Katy, Texas had an outstanding prep career at Katy High School. He picked up four letters under Tom McPherson. He was named All-Greater Houston Co-Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 2006 as he set a school record with 51 RBIs. He also earned three-time all-state honors and all-American honorable mention in 2008 and 2009 while being named 2009 district MVP. Continue reading

Top 100 Countdown: 40. Carson Smith (Texas State)

CarsonSmithActionCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 40 with Texas State’s Carson Smith. He is a 6-5 215 pound right handed pitcher from Midland Texas where he attended Midland Christian High School. As a senior in 2008, he was named District MVP and 1st team All-State. He was also named TAPPS 5A 2nd Team All-District in 2007 as a junior.

Mike Ford pitched a complete-game shutout to win his third game of the tournament and Andre Miller drove in both runs as the Santa Barbara (CA) Foresters shut out the Seattle (WA) Studs 2-0 to in the championship of the 74th National Baseball World Series.

The Foresters (7-0) won their second title in the past three years; like in 2006, Santa Barbara went undefeated in winning the title.
