MALIBU, Calif. — Corner infielders are supposed to provide pop in the lineup. Pepperdine first baseman Sam Meyer and third baseman Austin Davidson did just that Saturday afternoon in the Waves’ 8-3 win over visiting San Francisco (23-27, 9-8).
Davidson hit a three-run homer off the scoreboard in right field in the sixth inning and Meyer crushed the first pitch of the seventh inning way beyond the left field fence. The corner infield duo combined to reach base six times and drive in five of the Pepperdine (25-18, 8-6) runs.
