2014 CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (Feb. 10th)

rayricker_journalsHello everyone. It is getting close to that time for all of us who are in love…with baseball. Sure Valentine’s Day is coming up but more importantly (I’m glad my girlfriend doesn’t read this) it’s the start of the college baseball season. All of the hard work recruiting, developing on the field, in the weight room and now it’s time to put on the uniform and play some baseball. I know for the 2014 Post University Eagles we are excited to be on a real field. We have used indoor cages, turf football fields, parking lots, and whatever free space we can find to get ready for our opening day which is also this weekend. We will be headed down to face NE-10 St. Rose in Richmond, Virginia in beautiful 55 degree weather which after all of the snow we have received across New England will seem like beach weather. 2014 CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (Jan. 20th)

rayricker_journalsHow is everyone doing? With the Super Bowl lineup set, it means we are only a few short weeks until college baseball starts up. It has been a while since I have written, but it has been an exciting time. Over this past summer, I was fortunate enough to coach in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Bourne Braves. After three summers managing ball clubs in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, I took the summer of 2012 off and quickly realized how much I missed coaching in the summer and applied for coaching jobs in the Cape Cod League. CBD Journal with Post University’s Ray Ricker (Jan. 24th)

rayricker_journalsWith snow on the ground it means only one thing…baseball season is upon us. Welcome back everyone for another year of my College Baseball Daily Blog. For those of you who might have forgotten or at least tried to forget me this is Ray Ricker I am in my sixth season as Associate Head Baseball at Division 2 Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. We are in an all wood bat conference the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (C.A.C.C.) we have typically been a very strong in the conference and region. I say typically because last year was our first slip up since I have been here, for all the coaches out there who go through a down year only one thing has been on the coaching staff, returning players, and incoming players mind is erase the taste out of our mouths from last year’s mistakes. Since the first day of fall practice this has been a hard working bunch. We saw increase in size and strength in the weight room, extra swings in the cage, and more importantly a dedication in the classroom. I feel that there is a direct correlation between doing well in the classroom and how it affects you on the field. We had a very strong showing with our team grade point average and gave us hope coming into the spring season that we are back on track to where we need to be. Continue reading

CBD Journal with Post University’s Ray Ricker (April 3rd)

WOW… hello everyone. I want to start out this blog by apologizing to my loyal following of readers such as my mom, players, and various baseball people who still doubt that I can put a solid sentence structure together. This has been quite the year and it’s not even half way through yet ! I wish I could sit here and tell you how everything has been going our way and we are cruising through victories, but that has not been happening. Continue reading

CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (Feb. 15th)

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone even though it is a day late! Hope you spent it with somebody special in your life. I wanted to start out my blog this week by thanking the special people in my life that put up with my crazy life as a college baseball coach, my parents and my beautiful girlfriend Anna for putting up with the long hours, knowing that a recruiting trip, phone call at dinner from a recruit, or a bad loss can affect how much or how little I sleep. Valentine’s Day is a special time mainly because the D1 official start date is three days away and I can look forward to seeing college baseball on ESPN instead of soccer or basketball. CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (November 22nd)

Hello everyone! It’s been a while. I’m back blogging for my second year. I guess people were shocked that I could put together a coherent sentence, so here I am back at it. For those of you who did not read my blog last season (I’m sure that’s the majority of people) let me introduce myself. My name is Ray Ricker and this is my 5th season as the Associate Head Baseball Coach at DII Post University in Connecticut, which plays in an ALL wood bat conference (C.A.C.C.) I have managed for the past three summers in the N.E.C.B.L. I coach the hitters, catchers, and handle the recruiting at Post University. I love coaching college baseball, and  am very fortunate I get to do a job that I love and couldn’t think about doing anything else. Continue reading

CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (Post University/Mystic Schooners)

It’s been a long summer on the bus traveling all around the New England Collegiate League and my summer club the Mystic Schooners. This was my third year in the N.E.C.B.L. running a team as the past two seasons I was with the New Bedford Bay Sox, this make my summers a little different most assistant coaches. I really enjoying the recruiting aspect of coaching, going from showcase to showcase or field to field to try to find the next player to help your program take the next step. Coaching in the N.E.C.B.L. gives me the ability to run an all-star team composed of the top players in the country and get them to gel over the summer and hone their skills with a wood bat over the course of 42 games and hours on the bus. You really get to know these guys and admire how hard they work on an every day basis. Continue reading

CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (Post University/Mystic Schooners)

Hello everyone. Welcome back to my blog. After a couple of days off from Post Baseball it was that time again, time to get back on the bus. I am entering my 3rd year in the New England Collegiate League which is widely regarded as one of the top 3 summer leagues in the country. This is my second season as Manager in the league. I really enjoy the opportunity to coach and teach some of the best players in the country. Watching the Major League Baseball Draft gets a lot more interesting not only because of the players that I have coached getting selected in the draft but also seeing what players might not be coming to your summer club. While at Post during the season I am calling and receiving emails from coaches all over the country and have the chance to select my team for the summer. This summer I am the Manager for the Mystic Schooners, my first question was what in the world is a schooner? It is a boat, I’ll save everyone the google search. Continue reading
