Pacific releases 2014 Schedule

PacificPhotoFor the first time since the 1972 season, the Pacific baseball team has a new home as the Tigers take their show to the West Coast Conference after 41 years playing in the Big West. With its new conference comes new opponents and new rivalries with all the action beginning on Feb. 14, 2014 as the Tigers have released their 2014 Schedule. 2013 Big West Conference Preseason Poll

BigWest_thumb.gifCal State Fullerton was selected to successfully defend its Big West Conference title this season, according to the ten conference coaches that voted on the 2013 Big West Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll. The Titans earned nine first-place votes en route to a total of 99 points and was followed by UC Irvine, who collected the remaining first place vote and posted an overall 82 point total. Christian Ramirez dives in with the go-ahead run.IRVINE, Calif. — Taylor Sparks is only hitting .167 on the season, but he came through with the two biggest hits the last two games. A day after blasting a two-run walk-off homer, Sparks had the game-winning hit Saturday afternoon in a six-run eighth inning to help UC Irvine come back to beat Pacific 7-4 at Anteater Ballpark.

Pacific starter Kyle Crawford was cruising through seven innings having allowed only five hits. But after back-to-back singles with one out in the eighth, the Tigers went to the bullpen. Joe Spizzirri got a flyout, but then allowed a double to score a run and then back-to-back runs added another run to make it 4-3.

2012 Big West Coaches Poll Released

The Cal State Fullerton Titans were selected as the favorite to capture the 2012 Big West Conference title according to the 2012 Big West Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll after receiving six of the nine first-place votes and totaling 76 points. Picking up three first-place votes was UC Irvine, who was selected second with 70 points. Rounding out the top three after collecting 58 points were the 49ers of Long Beach State. Pacific Releases 2012 Schedule

Stockton, Calif. – Fifty games against California opponents, six contests with Pac-12 foes, home series with Creighton and Brown, and road meetings with Kansas State and Gonzaga before the 24-game Big West slate highlight the 2012 Pacific baseball schedule, released today by head coach Ed Sprague. Big West Weekend Preview (May 27th-29th)

The final week of Big West play has 5 games set for action, with all 9 teams active. The Highlanders will travel up to Davis to take on the Aggies. Long Beach State heads over to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters. Fullerton is back in action and taking on last place Northridge. Pacific travels to Santa Barbara to take on the Gauchos. Big West Weekend Preview (May 20th-22nd)

There are four conference match-ups set for this weekend as the first place Fullerton Titans have their scheduled bye week. The second place Anteaters travel down to the Inland empire to take on the Highlanders of UC Riverside. The UC Davis Aggies will travel back to Davis to take on the visiting UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. The Mustangs will leave the friendly confines of Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo and travel up north to Stockton to take on the Pacific Tigers. Big West Weekend Preview (May 13th-15th)

The Big West is in full swing with only a few weekends left. All nine teams are in action with four conference match-ups taking the field and another team playing out of conference. Long Beach travels to Fullerton for a tough match-up, UC Davis travels south to Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara hosts the Anteaters of Irvine and Riverside will be in Northridge. No. 1 Florida (6-0) plated three runs in the seventh to snap a 3-3 tie en route to a 9-3 victory over Boston College (2-3) on Friday night. The Gators’ 20th-straight win at McKethan Stadium secured the weekend series, which will wrap up on Sunday at 1 p.m. Junior Preston Tucker (Tampa, Fla.) was 3-for-4 with a homer and drew a bases-loaded walk with one down in the seventh that brought in senior Bryson Smith(Watkinsville, Ga.) with the winning run. Freshman Daniel Gibson (Lutz, Fla.) (1-0) earned his first collegiate win, while sophomore starter Hudson Randall (Atlanta, Ga.) permitted one run in five innings of work.
