RINDGE, N.H. (February 10, 2009) – The Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been selected as the unanimous favorite in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. Southern Connecticut 6 Pace 1

RINDGE, N.H. – Senior starting pitcher Toby Nylin (Pleasant Valley, Conn.) pitched a complete-game four-hitter and recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts on Saturday to lead the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Pace in an elimination game at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at Dr. Pappas Field. Freshman left fielder Andrew Babb (Hopkinton, Mass.) hit 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Owls. With the win, SCSU improves to 35-16, while Pace falls to 31-23 with the loss. RINDGE, N.H. (May 9, 2008) – Third-seeded Franklin Pierce University, ranked 20th in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and pingbaseball.com Division II polls and 29th in the Collegiate Baseball magazine rankings, notched a 5-2 victory over second-seeded Southern Connecticut State University, among team’s receiving votes in this week’s NCBWA poll, in today’s Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championship opener, presented by Diamond Sports and UBS/The Ricciardi Group, at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field this afternoon. Bryant wins NE-10 Regular Season Title

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Vaulted by a pair of late-inning Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.) singles Saturday afternoon, the Bryant University baseball team claimed the outright 2008 Northeast-10 regular-season title for the first time since 1998 with a pair of road wins over Pace University, 3-0 and 1-0.

The Bulldogs (38-16, 25-5 NE-10) had a share of the conference title in 2000 and 2002, but with the wins earn the undisputed top seed in the final weekend of play. Continue reading Bryant wins NE-10 Regular Season Title

2008 Northeast-10 Preseason Poll

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 reigning regular season and tournament champions were selected to finish first again as voted upon by the conference’s 13 coaches.

Franklin Pierce University, picked to finish second nationally in Division II by Baseball America, finished 26-4 in the Northeast-10 last year claiming its second straight regular season championship and second tournament championship in three years. Franklin Pierce Unanimous Top Choice in NCBWA Northeast Preseason Poll

RINDGE, N.H. (February 4, 2008) – Franklin Pierce University is the unanimous top choice in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America’s (NCBWA) Division II Northeast Regional preseason poll. Franklin Pierce, the defending Northeast Region and Northeast-10 regular season and tournament champions, received all nine first place votes by the committee. East Coast Conference regular season and tournament champion Adelphi University was picked second with 73 points. Northeast region and NE-10 Tournament runners-up Bryant University is third, followed by the University of Massachusetts Lowell in fourth and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions Caldwell College rounds out the top five. Northeast-10 Tourney Preview

The Northeast-10 Conference Tournament takes place today in Lowell MA at the home of the Lowell Spinners. The teams participating are the Bryant University Bulldogs, UMass-Lowell River Hawks, Franklin Pierce Ravens, and Pace Settlers. Bryant knocked off Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday by a score of 4-2 while Pace University beat Bentley 5-2 in the opening round of the tourney. Franklin Pierce and UMass-Lowell each got byes in the tournament. Franklin Pierce (41-8) enters the weekend as the Number 1 ranked team in the Northeast region by the NCBWA. UMass-Lowell enters as the second seed with a record of 33-16 while Bryant is 29-20 and Pace is 28-24.

The College Baseball Blog will be attending the Northeast-10 Tourney this weekend likely on Sunday. The Blog will be taking the teaching exam on Saturday and might head up after the all-day exam but likely will spend Mother’s Day in Lowell taking in the final games of the Northeast-10 Tourney.
