MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 20, today. New Mexico freshman outfielder Ryan Padilla was named National Hitter of the Week, while Stanford junior right-handed pitcher Mark Appel and Rice junior right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey were named Co-National Pitchers of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico broke ground on renovations at Lobo Field, Tuesday, in what was a great day for the future of Lobo baseball. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Six-time defending Mountain West champion TCU is the unanimous favorite to win its seventh consecutive regular season MW baseball title in 2012, according to a vote of the five MW head coaches. The Horned Frogs received all five first-place votes and 25 points overall. UNLV edged out New Mexico for second place with 16 points, while the Lobos picked up 15 points in third place. The University of New Mexico released its 2012 baseball schedule on Wednesday. The Mountain West conference member will play 32 home games this season at Isotopes Park as a part of a 56 game regular season schedule.
The Lobos will start play February 17th with a home series against Nevada. Their mettle will be tested three weeks into the season, when they host 2011 powerhouse Oklahoma on March 2nd. Continue reading

It was an afternoon of firsts as the Charlotte 49ers defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks to open the Tempe, Ariz. Regional, 3-2 at Packard Stadium in the desert. The New Mexico Lobos hosted No. 7 TCU at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday, May 20th and despite getting shelled 25-16, the Lobo defense turned a rare triple play in the game. It was officially scored as a 1-2-5-4-5-4 in the top of the third and it was UNM’s first triple play since May 7th, 1989 against Wyoming.
