Penn names John Yurkow as Head Coach

YurkowPennPHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s Director of Athletics, Steven J. Bilsky W’71, has announced the promotion of John Yurkow to the position of W. Joseph Blood Head Coach of Baseball.

Yurkow has spent the last seven seasons as the Quakers’ top assistant coach. In that position, his duties have included handling all aspects of recruiting, hitting instruction, infield instruction, and coaching third base. Continue reading

Ron Maestri set to return to New Orleans

NewOrleansFletcher Mackel of WDSU.com is reporting that New Orleans will name Ron Maestri as their next baseball coach. Maestri served as the head coach of the Privateers from 1972-1985 leading them to the NCAA Tournament nine times and qualified for the College World Series in 1984.

New Orleans has scheduled a press conference tomorrow at 2pm.

TCU adds Zach Etheredge to Coaching Staff

Longwood names Brian McCullough as Head Coach

BrianMcCollounghLongwoodFARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood University Director of Athletics Troy Austin has announced the appointment of Brian McCullough as the new baseball head coach for 2013-14. McCullough, a former starting pitcher and team captain for the Lancers, takes over for Charles Buddy Bolding, who recently retired after 35 years at the helm (953-544-4). McCullough has served the past four years as an assistant coach, most-recently as the program’s recruiting coordinator and pitching coach, while also assisting with all baseball operations, including scheduling. He has played professionally in the independent Frontier, Northern and Atlantic Leagues (2007-11). Continue reading

Quinnipiac’s Dan Gooley to retire at end of 2014 Season

He is a member of the Quinnipiac Athletics Hall of Fame as a player, and also as the coach of the 1983 team enshrined in 2009. He enters his final season as the all-time leading in career victories in Quinnipiac Athletics’ history with 524 to date. Continue reading

Iowa to name Darin Hendrickson as Head Coach

Update #1: St. Louis and Darin Hendrickson are refuting the report but we have spoken to many sources around the Iowa program that Hendrickson will be named the new coach.

College Baseball Daily has learned from sources close to the situation that Iowa will name Darin Hendrickson as the Hawkeyes head coach. Hendrickson led the Billkens to a 41-21 overall record while going 17-7 in Atlantic 10 play. He brought the squad to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2013 Atlantic 10 postseason tournament but went 0-2 in the Columbia, SC regional with losses to South Carolina and Clemson. He has a career coaching record of 688-323 in 18 years of coaching on the collegiate level which includes stops at Central Missouri, St. Louis Community College Forest Park, and Fontbonne University. Oklahoma set to name Pete Hughes as Head Coach; Mason takes over VT

PeterHughes_thumb.jpgVirginia Tech head coach Pete Hughes will be named the next head coach at Oklahoma according to sources close to the situation. Hughes brought the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament as they went 40-22 while hosting an NCAA Regional which included the Sooners. Hughes coached Trinity University for two seasons in 1997 and 1998 accumulating a 52-30 record there before moving on.  Continue reading

Jedd Soto resigns at St. Mary’s

Kent State names Jeff Duncan as Head Coach

JeffDuncanJeff Duncan, former associate head coach at Purdue, was named the new head baseball coach at Kent State on Tuesday, as announced by Kent State Director of Athletics, Joel Nielsen.

“One year removed from the College World Series, this head coaching position was very attractive and it was evident throughout the search,” said Nielsen. “In no particular order, we set out looking for someone that could coach and motivate our current players and incoming class, a dynamic recruiter, a person familiar with successful college baseball in the North, a serious commitment to academics and a good role model. Needless to say, we’re excited to introduce Jeff Duncan to the Kent State community, along with his wife Lauren and son Bryce, and I’m looking forward to building on our success.
