College Baseball Daily has learned that LIU-Brooklyn head coach Don Maines has resigned as the head coach of the Baseball program. Athletic Director Jon Suarez has taken over the program as the interim head coach.
We continue the countdown today with number 48, Bryant RHP Kyle Wilcox. In his freshman campaign with the Bulldogs, Wilcox proved that he had what it took to perform at the Division 1 level. With a fastball that topped out at 97 mph during 2013, the right hander quickly became a player of interest within the NEC. Wilcox appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen for the Black and Gold, throwing in 13 innings while posting a 6.23 ERA. SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team and head coach Steve Owens have announced the 2014 schedule, highlighted by an opening weekend trip to the University of Maryland and a four-game weekend against perennial Northeast powers Connecticut and Stony Brook.
The Bulldogs, coming off a record-setting season that included a program-record 45 wins and an NCAA tournament victory over Arkansas, have put together a 56-game slate that features eight 30-win teams and 19 home games at Conaty Park, a place they were an impressive 20-3 last season. HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac baseball’s Dan Gooley has announced his retirement from coaching following the 2013-14 academic year. He is a member of the Quinnipiac Athletics Hall of Fame as a player, and also as the coach of the 1983 team enshrined in 2009. The defending Northeast Conference Regular-Season champions, the Bulldogs will face arguably their toughest 56-game slate since moving to the Division I ranks in 2009. WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Baseball Head Coach Dean Ehehalt has announced the hiring of George Brown to his coaching staff as the team’s pitching coach. Brown joins the Hawks following a highly-successful amateur and professional pitching career. Brown’s four-year stint at St. John’s was punctuated with Big East Pitcher of the Year honors as a senior in addition to several other honors. Quinnipiac will name former UConn infielder Ryan Fuller as their new assistant coach this week. Fuller played the first two years of his college career at UConn-Avery Point before transferring to the main UConn campus in Storrs, CT for his final two seasons being named All-Big East Second Team as a junior.
