Illinois State releases 2011 Schedule

IllinoisStateBaseballNORMAL, Ill.-The defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion Illinois State baseball team’s 2011 schedule is highlighted by matchups against seven teams that won 30 or more games last season, two that qualified for the NCAA Division I Tournament and one that finished the season nationally-ranked. The schedule, which was released Tuesday, also features the annual Horenberger-Bass Classic, which pits the Redbirds against the 2010 NCAA Division III National Champion Illinois Wesleyan Titans.

Top 100 Countdown: 78. Kenny Long (Illinois State)

KennyLongIllinoisStateThe CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 78 with Illinois State’s Kenny Long. He is 6’0 and only 150 pounds from Fox Grove, Illinois and attended Dundee Crown High School. As a senior, he posted an 11-2 record with a 1.62 ERA. He finished the season with 121 strikeouts and walked only 22 batters in 85.6 innings of work.

Wichita State Baseball reads to kids at L’Ouverture Elementary School

WichitaStateReadingWICHITA, Kan. – Two members of the Wichita State baseball team and one member of the men’s basketball team read to students at L’Ouverture Elementary School on Wednesday, October 20 as part of the Missouri Valley Conference “Just Read” program.

Senior Tim Kelley and sophomore Tobin Mateychick along with senior men’s basketball player Derek Brown took part in the program.

Bradley Baseball Player Phil Kaiser Dies Monday

Updated October 19th at 12:25am

According to the AP Report, Phil Kaiser had an undiagnosed heart condition which was discovered in his autopsy. You can check out the AP article by clicking here. The press release from Bradley University is below.

PEORIA, Ill. – Phil Kaiser (Berwyn, Ill./Nazareth Academy), a junior utility player for the Bradley University baseball team, died early Monday morning after being transported to Methodist Medical Center of Illinois.  The cause of death has not been determined. Missouri State releases 2011 Schedule

HammonsField SPRINGFIELD — The 2011 Missouri State baseball schedule has been completed and includes a total of 55 games as the Bears move into their eighth season at Hammons Field. The schedule features 24 home dates, 31 road games and 14 contests against teams that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

Indiana State Assistant Coach Tyler Herbst Arrested

UPDATED ON SEPTEMBER 24th
TylerHerbst Indiana State assistant coach Tyler Herbst was arrested in a prostitution ring back in July. He is being charged with solicitation of a sexual act. The $250 he offered for the act was taken into custody, according to reports. Herbst is still listed on the Indiana State coaching staff and the school has not made comment on the situation.

UPDATE on 9/24 at 1:20 A.M.A report by WHTI out of Terre Haute, Indiana says that Tyler Herbst is still a member of the coaching staff. The Indiana State Athletic Department was also contacted by WHTI but had no comment on the matter.  There is also a report from the Indiana State message board Sycamore Pride that Herbst was seen at a JUCO game on the campus of Indiana State on September 22nd.

Collegiate Baseball’s Top 40 Recruiting Classes

LSUOmahaBound Collegiate Baseball has put out their 2010-2011 Top 40 Recruiting Classes. Leading the way is LSU with the San Diego Toreros coming in at the runners up spot. The Oregon Ducks come in at the third spot while CWS Finalist UCLA comes in at number four. Florida rounds out the top five with another strong class coming in. Creighton adds Craig Moore to Coaching Staff

CraigMooreCreighton OMAHA, Neb. – Head Creighton baseball coach Ed Servais announced today the official hiring of Craig Moore as the newest Bluejay baseball assistant coach, taking over for Brent Alwine, who accepted a similar position at Western Michigan. A native of Fremont, Neb., Moore comes to Creighton following a four-year stint as head coach at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. Moore will work primarily with the outfielders and hitters.

Jeff Christy added to Wichita State Coaching Staff

JeffChristy WICHITA, Kan. - Jeff Christy has been named the new volunteer assistant baseball coach, head coach Gene Stephenson announced on Sept. 2.

Christy, a native of Lincoln, Neb., spent the 2010 season as a catcher for the Wichita Wingnuts.
