First off, I want to apologize for not writing in a while. Over the past couple of weeks we have been struggling to say the least. At times we will play good baseball, and at times we look like “just another northern team.” Heading into confrence play this weekend against Charlotte, it is crucial that we start to pull together on the field and prove how good we are. Last weekend the Rams went 3-0, a great turn around after a tough start against William and Mary. It wasn’t always pretty, but at the end of the day when we looked up at the scoreboard, we were on top.
Our bats woke up a little bit against Charleston and Xavier, led by senior Jeff Cammans, spraying balls all over the field. On Sunday, we entered the 7th inning against UConn without a hit, however we had a one run lead. Greg Annarumo then came up with a big knock late in the game to give us a two run cushion. Greg’s biggest contribution of the weekend was his defense, he played fearlessly and made some outstanding plays at crucial points in the game. Well last weekend didn’t go exactly the way we had wanted it to… We dropped two one-run games at William & Mary and then finally came out with our first W in game three. Luckily for us, we are right back at it down at Charleston, SC starting tonight against the Cougars. Tomorrow we face conference rival Xavier and then finish up the weekend against regional rival UConn. Continue reading CBD Journal with Mike Le Bel (Feb. 24th)
Here we go again, tomorrow is opening day in D1 College Baseball. We couldn’t be more excited as a ball club (currently writing this on the bus) for our first series at William & Mary. The day before the season is filled with well wishes from summer coaches and teammates as well as school alumni. Continue reading CBD Journal with Mike Le Bel (Feb. 16th)
On October 27, 2011, the University of Rhode Island baseball team lost a teammate and a brother, Joseph Paul Ciancola. I want to start by saying that, on behalf of the Rhody baseball team, our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ciancola family.
Although under the most unfortunate of circumstances, I recently had the pleasure of meeting Joey’s family, and I now know where he got his smile, strength and love. Michele Ciancola, Joey’s mother, has been an incredible inspiration to all of us throughout this difficult time. Her strength is unmatched.

We are about a month into fall ball here at URI. Luckily, the Rhode Island weather has cooperated so far and we’ve been able to be outside almost every day that we can – hopefully I didn’t just jinx us. Even on days when it does rain, we are able to utilize our brand new hitting barn, which is an unbelievable resource for the team. Having a facility like this to train in when the harsh Northeast weather really starts to set in will pay huge dividends for URI Baseball.
