Here is your ACC Recap for Feb. 25th.

#2 Florida 9 Boston College 3

No. 1 Florida (6-0) plated three runs in the seventh to snap a 3-3 tie en route to a 9-3 victory over Boston College (2-3) on Friday night. The Gators’ 20th-straight win at McKethan Stadium secured the weekend series, which will wrap up on Sunday at 1 p.m. Junior Preston Tucker (Tampa, Fla.) was 3-for-4 with a homer and drew a bases-loaded walk with one down in the seventh that brought in senior Bryson Smith(Watkinsville, Ga.) with the winning run. Freshman Daniel Gibson (Lutz, Fla.) (1-0) earned his first collegiate win, while sophomore starter Hudson Randall (Atlanta, Ga.) permitted one run in five innings of work. Continue reading

2011 MAAC Preseason Baseball Poll

Edison, N.J. – Rider University has been chosen as the favorite to win the 2011 MAAC Baseball Championship, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Rider, the defending MAAC Champion, finished with 73 points in the poll, while Marist College finished second (67).  Canisius College placed third with 65 points.  Manhattan College placed fourth (56), followed by Siena College (51), Niagara University (28), Fairfield University (27), Saint Peter’s College (20), and Iona College (18). NCBWA Releases 2011 Stopper of the Year Watch List

Wichita, Kan. (NCBWA) — Forty-five players have been named to the initial watch list for the seventh annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, as announced by the association Tuesday.

2011 CBD Season Preview: MAAC

The MAAC conference in 2010 was won by Canisius in the regular season with a 19-5 conference record. Marist came in second with a 16-8 record while Rider and Manhattan tied for third place with 15-7 records. Siena and Niagara tied for fifth place with 13-11 records. Fairfield finished in seventh with a 8-16 record while St. Peter’s finished in eighth with a 6-18 record and Iona finished last with a 3-21 conference mark.

Manhattan Baseball Spreads Holiday Cheer

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan College baseball team spread holiday cheer last week at St. Augustine’s School in the Bronx by participating in the annual “Breakfast with Santa” celebration for the second straight year. The Jaspers fundraised to help purchase gifts for over 50 children at the elementary school. Continue reading


Manhattan releases 2011 Schedule

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Sixth year head baseball coach Kevin Leighton released Manhattan’s schedule for the 2011 campaign. The Jaspers’ slate features out-of-conference contests with powers from the BIG EAST, SEC, Atlantic 10 and Colonial Athletic Association, in addition to the always challenging MAAC slate. Manhattan opens the season Feb. 25-27 with a three game series at Western Carolina. Continue reading


Top 100 Countdown: 53. Dan Paolini (Siena)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 53 with Siena junior second baseman Dan Paolini. The Stratford Connecticut native attended Bunnell High School where he was a three year letterwinner in baseball and basketball. He was named All-Conference for his final three seasons while being All-State in his junior and senior seasons for baseball. Continue reading


Iona Walks for Charity


IonaCharityWalkFifteen members of the Iona College baseball team attended the annual Diabetes Walk at White Plains High School on October 17, 2010. The walk consisted of teams who supported a friend or family and they competed in a friendly competition to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. The event also had games for children to play and free food available that met the needs of those with Diabetes. The Gaels participated in the walk and once over, helped clean up tables, tents, and garbage.
