Big 12 Weekend Preview

The Big 12 opens the week with a promising schedule. Texas Tech hosts a tournament, while Nebraska and Missouri are both participating in tournaments away from home. No. 6 Texas plays host to Maryland, with No. 5 Oklahoma playing host to William and Mary. Most of the other match-ups favor the Big 12 teams, including no. 32 Baylor/Oral Roberts, no. 16 Texas A&M/LeMoyne, Oklahoma State/Bryant and Kansas State/Pacific. Unfortunately, Kansas travels to Fort Worth to take on no. 3 TCU, which won’t be good for the early season record.

2011 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

Oklahoma is the preseason favorite to claim the Big 12 baseball regular season championship heading into the 2011 season, in a vote of the league’s head coaches. In 2010, the Sooners made their 10th College World Series appearance and first trip to Omaha since 1995. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Big 12

The Big 12 Conference had a good season in 2010, boasting a CWS team in Oklahoma, and seeing the Texas Longhorns compile an incredible 24-3 conference record, with half the members making the post season. 2011 promises good things for the league. Big 12 releases 2011 TV Schedule

The Big 12 Conference has announced its 2011 baseball schedule on FSN. Six games, highlighted by the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, will be broadcast.

Eight different schools will be featured on FSN during the regular season, including 2010 College World Series qualifier Oklahoma along with the defending Big 12 regular and postseason champions Texas and Texas A&M, respectively.  Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech will also make appearances. Coverage begins on Saturday, April 23 when the Red Raiders travel to Manhattan, Kan. to face K-State. Continue reading

Kansas Baseball Adds Oregon’s Jay Uhlman to Coaching Staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Head Baseball Coach Ritch Price announced Tuesday that former Oregon assistant coach Jay Uhlman has joined the Jayhawk coaching staff to serve as an assistant coach. Uhlman will be KU’s recruiting coordinator, hitting coach and baserunning/short game coordinator as well as coaching the corner infielders and serve as the third base coach.

“We are thrilled to have Jay Uhlman join our coaching staff. Coach Uhlman has a proven track record of success in developing players to be successful not only at the Division I level, but in professional baseball as well,” Price said. Continue reading

Kansas elevates Ryan Graves to Associate Head Coach

LAWRENCE, Kan. – In an important decision for the future of the Kansas baseball program, Head Coach Ritch Price announced Friday that long-time assistant coach Ryan Graves has been elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach effective immediately. Graves will continue to coordinate the Kansas pitching staff and also be the position coach for the team’s catchers.

Kansas Finalizes Hoglund Ballpark Upgrades

Baseball TurfLAWRENCE, Kan. – Hoglund Ballpark, the home of the Kansas baseball team, received a $1.2 million facelift this summer as the Jayhawks installed AstroTurf USA’s Gameday 3D playing surface.

The entire field is covered in turf, with a different color and grade on the basepaths, at home plate and on the warning track. The pitcher’s mound is the only area with real dirt. The project was funded entirely through private donations to the baseball program, in an effort which began prior to the 2009 season.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 91 Colton Murray (Kansas)

Baseball MugsThe CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 91 with Kansas RHP Colton Murray. He is from Overland Park Kansas and attended Olathe East High School where he was a three year letterwinner under John McDonald. As a senior, he went 5-1 with a 1.55 ERA while striking out 50 batters in 31 2/3 innings. He also hit .481 with three home runs during 2008 season. He was named all-state selection in 2007 and 2008 while being named Kansas Pitcher of the Year in 2007.
