Big 12 Weekend Preview (3/18-3/20)

It is finally opening weekend for the Big 12 Conference. Eight of the league’s ten teams are participating in conference series, with Missouri and Nebraska playing series against non-conference foes.

The conference matchup of the weekend is between #3 Oklahoma and #12 Texas A&M in Norman. Oklahoma was the winner of 16 straight games before hitting a three-game skid against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Arizona. Big 12 Impact Freshmen (3-16)

After 165 Big 12 games this season, a few freshmen have distanced themselves from the rest of the class of 2011. While each team has at least one player who has broken from the pack, some teams like Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Nebraska have been blessed with two such players. The ACC had three of their top programs head on the road for non-conference games on Friday night highlighting the national slate. Foley’s Quick Hits for Feb. 19th

Another day is in the books as we are now two days into the season as there was several upsets in the NCBWA Top 35.

  • Texas State starter Mitchell Pitts looked great with his command, striking out seven batters over six innings, giving up two runs on two hits and one walk.

Big 12 Weekend Preview

The Big 12 opens the week with a promising schedule. Texas Tech hosts a tournament, while Nebraska and Missouri are both participating in tournaments away from home. No. 6 Texas plays host to Maryland, with No. 5 Oklahoma playing host to William and Mary. Most of the other match-ups favor the Big 12 teams, including no. 32 Baylor/Oral Roberts, no. 16 Texas A&M/LeMoyne, Oklahoma State/Bryant and Kansas State/Pacific. Unfortunately, Kansas travels to Fort Worth to take on no. 3 TCU, which won’t be good for the early season record.

2011 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

Oklahoma is the preseason favorite to claim the Big 12 baseball regular season championship heading into the 2011 season, in a vote of the league’s head coaches. In 2010, the Sooners made their 10th College World Series appearance and first trip to Omaha since 1995. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Big 12

The Big 12 Conference had a good season in 2010, boasting a CWS team in Oklahoma, and seeing the Texas Longhorns compile an incredible 24-3 conference record, with half the members making the post season. 2011 promises good things for the league.
