Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Releases 2011 Preseason Poll


TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas Christian University is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I pre-season baseball poll.

The Horned Frogs finished third at the College World Series last season and return a deep and experienced ball club for 2011. Seven position player starters are back along with three Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American starting pitchers in LHP Matt Purke (16-0, 3.02 ERA, 142 K, 34 BB), RHP Kyle Winkler (12-3, 3.39 ERA, 92 K, 36 BB), and RHP Steven Maxwell (11-2, 2.70 ERA, 93 K, 34 BB). Hawaii to join Big West Conference?

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is reporting that the Hawaii Warriors will likely join the Big West Conference in all sports except football where they will join the Mountain West Conference. This move is extremely interesting as the Warriors have been one of the stronger programs in the WAC conference in the last five years making multiple runs into the NCAA Tournament. Continue reading

Keith Komeiji added to Pacific Coaching Staff


KeithKomeijiPacific STOCKTON, Calif. – University of the Pacific baseball head coach Ed Sprague announced changes to his staff Wednesday, naming Chris McCormack Director of Baseball Operations and Keith Komeiji as volunteer assistant.

"We’re excited to be able to add someone to our staff with the experience that Keith has," Sprague said. "He’s a tremendous addition which should really help the development of our catching corps."

Rusty McNamara added to Hawaii Coaching Staff


rp_primary_mcnamara_hired HONOLULU – University of Hawai‘i Rainbow baseball head coach Mike Trapasso announced the hiring of Rusty McNamara as an assistant baseball coach Thursday.

McNamara comes to Hawai‘i after coaching three seasons at the University of California, Riverside. During his team at UCR, McNamara was the hitting coach, first base coach and was in charge of outfielders.

2010 Cape Cod Baseball All-League Team


CCBL_2007_250 Regular-season MVP Kolten Wong (Hawaii) and home run champion Jordan Ribera (Fresno State) lead the list of stars who were named to the 2010 Cape Cod Baseball League’s All-League team that was announced by commissioner Paul Galop this weekend.

A total of 24 players were selected to the elite team, with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and the Orleans Firebirds each placing four on the squad. The lone representative from the Cape League champion Cotuit Kettleers is starting pitcher Austin Wood (St. Petersburg), who went 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA this season.

Kolten Wong named 2010 Cape Cod League MVP


ORLEANS —- You never quite know what result a big decision can have. For Kolten Wong (Hawai’i), the decision to forgo Team USA to play with the Orleans Firebirds this summer resulted in the MVP trophy.

Despite missing the last four games of the regular season due to an injury, Wong was honored with the Pat Sorenti Most Valuable Player Award.
