2012 CBD Season Preview: ACC

The story of the year in the ACC was how much more dominant the ACC Coastal Division was with four teams winning 19 or more games on the year. Virginia ended up tying Georgia Tech for the overall conference and Coastal Division titles with identical 22-8 records. North Carolina finished in third place in the division with a 20-10 record while Miami (FL) went 19-10 for fourth place. Virginia Tech started the conference season with one win in their first nine games but ended up going 10-11 the rest of the year to finish the season with an 11-19 record. Duke finished in last place with a 7-23 mark. Continue reading

Georgia Tech Media Day (Video)

Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall is entering his 19th year in charge of the Yellow Jackets program. He is coming off a 42-21 campaign but has not been to a Super Regional since 2006 when they advanced all the way to the College World Series. You can check out the full video from Media Day below. NCBWA Names 2012 Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

2012 ACC Preseason Coaches Poll Released

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina has been selected as the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference baseball preseason favorite in a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Tar Heels were named by seven coaches as this year’s ACC team to beat, while Georgia Tech received four first-place votes and Florida State one. Continue reading

2012 ACC Baseball broadcast package will feature 43 games

GREENSBORO, N.C. – At least 43 games involving Atlantic Coast Conference baseball teams are scheduled to be carried nationally and/or regionally by ESPNU, ESPN2, ESPN3 and RSN (Regional Sports Network) during the 2012 season.

All 12 conference teams are represented on this year’s schedule. In addition, all 13 games of the ACC Championship will be televised live for the fifth straight year. The first four days of the tournament, set for May 23 through May 27 at Greensboro, N.C.’s NewBridge Bank Park, will be carried by RSN. The championship game, scheduled for noon on Sunday, May 27, will be telecast nationally by ESPN2. Continue reading

Top 100 Countdown: 20. Buck Farmer (Georgia Tech)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 20 with Georgia Tech junior RHP Buck Farmer. The Conyers, Georgia native attended Rockdale High School where he was a four year letterwinner and a three time captain under coach Casey Martin. He was named All-State, All-District and All-Area all four years of high school (2006-2009) while posting an ERA of 2.02 as a senior and 1.50 as a junior. He broke the school record for strikeouts in a game in 2008 when he struck out 22 against Dacula High School. He was drafted by his hometown Atlanta Braves in the 45th round of the 2009 MLB Draft Pick but elected to enroll at Georgia Tech. Continue reading

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 29 with Georgia Tech sophomore Daniel Palka. The Lyman, South Carolina native was a five year letter winner at Greer High School under head coach Bob Massullo. In 2010, hit .470 with 14 home runs and 32 RBIs while posting a 1.80 ERA on the mound while being named All-State twice (2009 and 2010) and four-time all-area member (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010). He was drafted in the 19th round by the Philadelphia Phillies but decided to head to Georgia Tech. Continue reading

Georgia Tech releases 2012 Schedule

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech baseball head coach Danny Hall announced Thursday the 2012 schedule consisting of 56 regular season games.

The Yellow Jackets will face nine opponents that participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, hosting six of those teams at Russ Chandler Stadium. The Jackets posted a 26-10 record on the Flats last season. Continue reading
