Zach Thiel dropped me a quick email yesterday to tell me that the Wisconsin-Lacrosse baseball program has been saved from being cut. Thiel started up SaveUWLBaseball.com which was part of the effort to raise close to $39,000 which was only $11,000 short of the goal. He previously posted the following article on July 3rd on this site which is available here.
The first article looks at Virginia Tech’s Austin Wates who has stood out this summer with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. Wates has showcased his in the Cape putting up huge numbers including a batting average over .300 against some of the best pitchers in the country. He also has excellent speed which is seen in his 6.5 second time in the 60.

Due to budget cuts the administration as of June 10th has decided to end their division three baseball program immediately unless $50,000 can be raised by September 1st. La Crosse has developed a long list of notable athletes over the years, to name a few: Brewers pitcher Jerry Augustine, Brewers/Huntsville Stars/Team Italy’s catcher Vinny Rottino, first baseman Craig Kusick, NFL lineman Tom Newberry and NFL WR Bill Schroeder.
