Delaware State releases 2013 Schedule

J.P.BlandinDelawareState_thumb.jpgDover, Del. – Delaware State University has announced its baseball schedule for the 2013 season. The Hornets’ 51-game regular season slate will include 25 contests at Soldier Field on the DSU campus.

Delaware State will open the 2013 season with a four-game series at UNC-Charlotte Feb. 15-17. The following weekend, the Hornets will compete in the Rock Hill Coca Cola Classic, hosted by Winthrop University in South Carolina. In addition to Winthrop, DSU is scheduled to face Eastern Kentucky and Army in the tournament. Read the rest of this entry »

Conference USA Weekend Recap (May 13th-15th)

Several key series unfolded this weekend as Conference USA finished up its second to last weekend of conference play this season. Houston stole two from visiting Southern Miss, leaving the Golden Eagles with just a one-game lead in the conference standings at a 15-6 record. Right behind them is Rice, who, with their series victory over visiting Memphis, improved to 14-7 in conference play. UCF solidified their spot in the Conference USA tournament, jumping up to a tie for fifth place after sweeping UAB in Birmingham over the weekend. Tied with UCF (as well as with Memphis) is Tulane, who were able to scrape together two wins in West Virginia, as they played an unconventionally scheduled three game set against Marshall. ECU absolutely destroyed visiting Delaware State, taking all three from the MEAC team by an average margin of just over eleven runs per game. Read the rest of this entry »

Conference USA Weekend Preview (May 13th-15th)

With just two CUSA series left to play, the regular season championship has become a two-team race as #17 Southern Miss sits just two games ahead of #19 Rice for the lead in the conference standings. East Carolina is the only other team with an over-.500 record, as the Pirates 11-10 mark is good for third place. Houston falls into a fourth place tie with Memphis after dropping all three games to Rice at home last weekend. Nationally, Southern Miss jumps two spots to #17, their highest ranking all season, while Rice re-cracks the top 20 at #19 this week. Read the rest of this entry »

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team earned a rain-shortened 4-0 win over Georgetown Tuesday evening at Davenport Field. 2010 MEAC Preseason Coaches Poll

MEACLogo The MEAC Conference announced its 2010 pre-season baseball award winners on Wednesday. The B-CU Wildcats were named the unanimous pick to win the team championship for a fifth straight season.

Wildcat sophomore LHP Ali Simpson was named the pre-season pitcher of the year and senior C. J. Lauriello was named the co-player of the year in the voting by conference head baseball coaches and sports information directors.

Delaware State signs two

Dover, Del. (Dec. 7, 2009) —  Delaware State University head baseball coach J.P. Blandin has announced that two high school seniors have committed to attend DSU during the early signing period.

Blandin says Polytech (Del.) High School pitcher Matt McClain and outfielder Tyon Ore of Norfolk, Va., have signed to compete for the Hornets beginning in the 2010-11 season.

McClain, a right hander, posted a 6-3 record with a 1.69 earned run average as a junior at Polytech last season. He was also credited with two saves, 63 strikeouts and just 11 walks.

Delaware State Baseball visits Local School

DelawareStateSchool DOVER, Del. (November 4, 2009) — On Monday, November 2, the Delaware State Baseball continued DSU’s commitment to the local community when the team visited the Campus Community School.

The team spent the afternoon, spending time with first-grade students, talking about baseball and reading to one another. The Hornets began the afternoon reading to the first-grade class. The elementary students then followed by choosing to read to the DSU players.

NC State 9 UNC 4

RALEIGH, N.C. — Kyle Wilson went 3-for-3 with two home runs and Drew Poulk added a homer as NC State defeated top-ranked North Carolina 9-4 on Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park to win the ACC weekend series against the Tar Heels.

With the win, the Wolfpack improves to 24-28 overall and 10-17 in ACC play. The loss drops the Tar Heels to 38-13 overall and 17-9 in the ACC. Read the rest of this entry »

Bryant wins first D-1 Game

DOVER, DEL. – Sophomore outfielder Jordan English (Windsor Locks, Conn.) went four-for-five, hitting three homeruns while driving in five to pace a Bulldog offensive attack that piled up 19 hits as they grabbed their first Division I win, beating Delaware State, 16-7, on the road Saturday afternoon.
