2010 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues and Team USA

BaseballAmericaCover DURHAM, N.C.–The Pacific-10 Conference dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 summer college leagues and Team USA, which have been posted at BaseballAmerica.com. The Pac-10 leads all conferences with 30 players on the lists and six players ranking as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues.

Team USA defeats Fayetteville 8-3

SeanGilmartin CARY, N.C. – Sean Gilmartin (Florida State) fanned five and Jackie Bradley, Jr. (South Carolina) collected three hits as Team USA picked up its first win of the summer, 8-3, Tuesday night over the Fayetteville Swampdogs of the Coastal Plain League. The game was called after 8 innings due to lightning in the area.

Gilmartin (1-0) went five innings in the start allowing two runs (both unearned) and walking one. Brett Mooneyham (Stanford) gave up a run in two innings of relief work, while freshman Brian Johnson (Florida) worked the final inning.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 6 Kyle Roller (East Carolina)

KyleRollerHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 6 in our countdown with senior first baseman Kyle Roller from East Carolina. He is from Rockingham North Carolina and played high school baseball at Richmond Senior High School. As a senior, he batted .540 with five home runs, 30 RBI, stealing 14 bases and walking 30 times. He was named to the Mid-Southeastern All-Conference team as a sophomore, junior and senior. Impact Baseball rated him as the ninth-best prospect and sixth-best positional player in North Carolina.

CBB Top 100 Countdown: Number 92 Will Lamb (Clemson)

WillLambHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 92 in our countdown with Clemson sophomore LHP/outfielder Will Lamb who is listed at 6’4 and 170 pounds. He is from Seaford Virginia and attended York High School where he lettered in baseball for all four years and picked up a letter in basketball. He was named All-State in Virginia as a junior and senior. In his junior season, he hit .508 with a 4-2 record and a 1.60 ERA on the mound.

Baseball America releases Top Prospects Lists for Summer Leagues and Team USA

BaseballAmerica DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.

BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

FIU Baseball Players Excelling In Summer Ball

While the regular season ended in May, several Golden Panthers are still taking swings and toeing the rubber as they take part in summer ball.

Tyler Townsend has led the way this summer, putting up terrific numbers for the Winchester Royals of the Valley Baseball League. FIU’s leading home run hitter in 2008 has posted a .405 average while slugging 11 homers, hitting 12 doubles, driving in 34 and getting on base at a .512 clip. Townsend’s outstanding numbers earned him an All-Star nod.

Coastal Plain League

Playing for the Fayetteville (N.C.) Swap Dogs, sophomores-to-be Carter Jurica and Jason King continue to rank among the team’s leading hitters… Jurica went 5-for-15 to improve his season average to .235 with four doubles and 14 RBI… He is also 8-for-10 in stolen base attempts… Against Florence on Sunday, Jurica was 2-for-3 with one walk and one run scored… King was 4-for-14 last week with one RBI and two runs scored… King’s average improved for the second-straight week as he is now the team’s second-leading hitter… On the season, the third baseman is hitting .269 with six doubles, two triples, one home run and 12 RBI… Against Thomasville on Friday, King drove in the Swap Dogs’ lone run in an 8-1 loss… The Swap Dogs, who finished the first half of the season second in the south division, are in fifth during the second half with a 7-13 record.

Three Patriots Make All-Star Rosters, More Playing Summer Ball

Sophomore outfielder Austin Newell and junior pitcher Lex Wolfe of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team were both named to the Wolff Division All-Star team and will play in the 2008 Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game on July 28. Patriots’ assistant coach Wes Davis will be making an all-star appearance as well, coaching the American team in the 2008 Coastal Plain League All-Star game on July 21.

Wolfe currently has a record of 1-2 for the Jersey Pilots with one save over 47.0 innings pitched. The right-hander from New Jersey has struck out 45 batters this summer and has allowed just 12 earned runs for an ERA of 2.30.
