CBB Column: ACC Weekend Preview (Feb. 26th-28th)

ACCBaseballLogo Here is your ACC Weekend Preview for February 26th-28th. I will have much more in-depth previews once we enter the conference portion of the schedule. The ACC teams have a fairly easy slate this week with Boston College and NC State facing the most difficult opponents. The Eagles head down to Auburn to play the host Tigers, Missouri and Florida Atlantic while NC State takes part in the “Baseball at the Beach” tourney which features James Madison and nationally ranked squads in Coastal Carolina and UC-Irvine. Besides those two ACC teams, the rest of the conference has fairly easy matchups with Florida State hosting Hofstra, Rhode Island heading to Virginia, Xavier going to Georgia Tech, Manhattan taking on the Hurricanes, Maine and North Carolina facing off, Wright State at Clemson, Delaware at Maryland, Fordham at Duke, Kent State at Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech heading to Charleston Southern.

2010 Big South Preseason Coaches Poll

CoastalCarolina CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the third consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University‘s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office.  In addition, the coaches voted Chanticleers’ junior outfielder Rico Noel (Lawton, Okla.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Cody Wheeler (Spotsylvania, Va.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Pleasant, S.C.) have been named the Choice Hotels Player of the Week and New Balance Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played the final week of the regular-season, it was announced today by the League office. The Warning Track with Brian Foley (April 12th)

Here are some of the highlights of the day.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference baseball coaches and the voting members of the Southern Conference Sports Media Association have each selected Elon as the preseason favorite to repeat as champion in 2009. A year ago, the Phoenix became the first team in seven seasons to win both the regular season and tournament titles en route to a 44-18 season and a berth in the NCAA Regionals. Continue reading

Charleston Southern signs Eight for 2010 Season

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern Baseball Coach Stuart Lake and his staff have announced their first recruiting class, signing eight players for the 2010 season during the early signing period.

“Our recruiting coordinator Charles Assey, with the help of assistant coaches Stan Kowalski and Anthony Hayes, has assembled a fantastic class,” said Lake. “We have a focus in our recruiting on our state and the surrounding region to find the best high school and junior college players available. Also, we focus on guys that understand our purpose here at CSU is to not only stress the baseball aspects for success, but the academic and Christian aspects as well.” Continue reading
