2011 CBD Season Preview: Atlantic Sun

The 2010 Atlantic Sun regular season saw Florida Gulf Coast dominate the conference with a 25-5 conference mark as second place Mercer finished six games back with a 16-11 record. East Tennessee State finished a game behind the Bears with a 15-12 record. North Florida and Jacksonville finished tied for fourth place with a 14-12 record. Stetson rounded out the qualifiers for the Atlantic Sun postseason tournament with a 14-13 record. Belmont at 13-13, Kennesaw State at 12-15, Lipscomb at 9-17, and Campbell at 8-19 were on the outside looking in at the postseason tournament while USC-Upstate went 8-19 as they were not eligible for the A-Sun tournament as they are undergoing an NCAA Reclassifying period. Campbell releases 2011 Schedule

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Home and away contests with North Carolina State, Duke, East Carolina and UNC Wilmington, along with a home series with Northwestern and a full slate of Atlantic Sun games highlight the 2011 Campbell baseball schedule.

Campbell Begins New Stadium Construction


CampbellStadiumBUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell’s new baseball stadium at Taylor Field began phase one of construction this week, beginning the overhaul project that will give the Camels a new and improved home. Construction of the facility, which will be carried out in two phases wrapped around the 2011 season, will be completed prior to opening day, 2012.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Led by a 4-for-4 night from Tyler Cannon (Sr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.), the top-ranked Virginia baseball team knocked off Marshall, 6-3, Tuesday at Davenport Field. Six Virginia pitchers combined to limit the Thundering Herd to six hits as the Cavaliers won their sixth straight game.

Cannon extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games. With his first-inning double, Cannon tied the Virginia career record for doubles with 53, matching Brandon Guyer (2005-07). John Barr (Jr., Ivyland, Pa.) and Stephen Bruno (Fr., Audubon, N.J.) each added a pair of hits for UVa.

MarkPopeGT STATESBORO, Ga. – Sophomore Mark Pope combined with freshman Luke Bard for a four-hit shutout and the offense scored double-digit runs for the third straight game, as the No. 3 Georgia Tech baseball team defeated Georgia Southern, 10-0, Tuesday evening in Statesboro, Ga.

Tuesday’s shutout was Georgia Tech`s third in the first four games of the season, the most in school history after four games played. The three runs allowed through four games are tied for the fewest allowed to this point in school history.

Atlantic Sun releases Preseason Coaches Poll and Team


atlantic-sun-logo MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun conference announced its baseball preseason coaches’ poll and all-conference honors Wednesday with FGCU earning the nod as the conference favorite.

The Eagles also cleaned up in the superlative awards with first baseman Zach Maxfield earned the preseason Player of the Year honors and Chris Sale picked up the Pitcher of the Year nod by a unanimous decision.

Campbell releases 2010 Schedule


Campbell2010Schedule BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Games against in-state rivals East Carolina, UNC Wilmington, and NC State, a matchup with 2009 regional opponent, Xavier University, and a 27-game conference schedule highlight the 2010 spring schedule for the Fighting Camels baseball squad.

This schedule marks the third in the tenure of Greg Goff but it promises to be one of the most challenging since his arrival in Buies Creek previous to the 2008 campaign. Campbell will face off against 21 different teams during the spring, with these teams having won a combined 516 contests during the 2009 season.

Villanova signs four for 2010-2011 season

VILLANOVA, Pa. – During the recent early signing period which ended on November 18, head coach Joe Godri signed four scholastic players to National Letters of Intent. The group of four recruits includes two pitchers and two position players. All four players are expected to enroll at Villanova in the fall of 2010.

"We were able to address all of our immediate needs with this signing class," Godri said. "The four players we signed during the early period are good students academically and outstanding athletes who have experience playing for some of the nation’s top club teams."

Campbell Signs Seven In Summer Recruiting Period


PAYRKXSKPHXKFZA.20090221213420 BUIES CREEK, N.C. — As the fall practice schedule gets underway at Taylor Field the Campbell baseball program welcomes 16 newcomers including seven that have come to the team as a result of the summer recruiting period.  These seven new Fighting Camels are expected to make an immediate impact in the Campbell lineup this season.

Four junior college transfers highlight the summer recruiting for the Fighting Camels including two pitchers who helped their squads reach the postseason, including one who made an appearance in the Junior College World Series.

Campbell set to move to Big South

The Campbell Camels will be moving to the Big South conference according to a report in The Fayetteville Observer. Campbell was a charter member of the Big South back in 1983 but left in 1994 for the Trans America Athletic Conference which later became the Atlantic Sun Conference. The school will be a member of the Atlantic Sun through the 2010-2011 school year before making the transition to the Big South for the 2011-2012 season.
