Powered by three home runs and outstanding relief pitching, No. 4 Florida (34-12) dealt Sun Belt Conference leader Florida Atlantic (31-19) a 7-3 setback on Wednesday night at McKethan Stadium. Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) tied the Gators’ single-season record homers by a freshman with his 16th to even the game in the third, senior Matt den Dekker (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) put the hosts in front with a two-run shot in the fifth and freshman Nolan Fontana (Winter Garden, Fla.) provided insurance with a two-run blast in the seventh.
Senior Jeff Barfield (Perry, Ga.) (3-0) tossed four scoreless frames to collect the win and the trio of sophomore Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Greg Larson (Longwood, Fla.) and junior Kevin Chapman (Coral Springs, Fla.) each threw one scoreless inning as Florida improved to 24-3 at home this season.

NEW ORLEANS – Middle Tennessee, the defending Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament champion, has been tabbed the preseason favorite to win the 2010 league title in a vote of the league’s head coaches. The Blue Raiders received eight of 11 first-place votes from the coaches.
MT is led by junior Bryce Brentz, the reigning SBC Player of the Year and the 2010 SBC Preseason Player of the Year, and Kenneth Roberts, the 2010 SBC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Both Brentz and Roberts were first-team All-SBC selections a season ago as they led the Blue Raiders to a 44-18 and its 14th NCAA appearance.

Villanova signs four for 2010-2011 season
VILLANOVA, Pa. – During the recent early signing period which ended on November 18, head coach Joe Godri signed four scholastic players to National Letters of Intent. The group of four recruits includes two pitchers and two position players. All four players are expected to enroll at Villanova in the fall of 2010.
"We were able to address all of our immediate needs with this signing class," Godri said. "The four players we signed during the early period are good students academically and outstanding athletes who have experience playing for some of the nation’s top club teams."

Oregon State Signee Showcase: Brian Pointer
Brian Pointer recently signed his national letter of intent to join the Oregon State baseball team for the 2011 season. He is a native of Reno, Nev., and attends Galena High School.
As a junior, he posted 11 home runs, 41 walks, 14 stolen bases and 33 RBI. He was named first-team all-league after last season, also earning first-team all-league honors his sophomore season. Pointer is related to Allie Reynolds, who pitched in the Major Leagues from 1942-54 with the New York Yankees. His grandfather, Arnold, played football and baseball at Oklahoma.

Kentucky signs Nine for 2010 Season
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After securing two top-six recruiting classes in his first two seasons at the helm of the Kentucky baseball program, UK head coach Gary Henderson announced Monday that nine talented prospects have signed national letters of intent.
“We are really excited about our 2010 class,” Henderson said. “The last two years, we have had top-ranked classes and this group of student-athletes is every bit as good. One of the best things about this class is that we have a solid group of Kentucky kids who come to UK. We are extremely excited that we could keep these Kentucky guys home for their college careers.”
