College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 80 with Vanderbilt junior shortstop Anthony Gomez. The Nutley, New Jersey native spent his high school career at Don Bosco Prep. He was a member of three county championship teams while leading the team as a senior to a 33-0 record and a state championship. He was also named All-State as a senior while being named All-County in 2008 and 2009. Continue reading

As teams look toward Super Regional play, the list of players in the running for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award has been narrowed to 10.
The winner of the Brooks Wallace Award, presented by Mizuno, will be announced in Lubbock, Texas, on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions. Continue reading
The SEC Tournament starts today in Hoover, Alabama. The town of Hoover really does this thing right—each team stays in the Wynfrey Hotel, which is connected to the Riverchase Galleria Mall. We have easy access to food, a mall and a pool. We also get police escorts to and from each game at Regions Park, the Birmingham Barons AA stadium. This week is Spring Break at Vandy, so I figured there is no better time to have a guest blogger—and somehow, Anthony Gomez talked me into letting him do it. “Go-Go” Gomez is a sophomore infielder from Nutley, New Jersey. Even though he is one of my best friends, I still feel the need to apologize for whatever Jersey Shore fist-pumping he may put into it. This weekend we see two major non-conference matchups between ranked teams with Stanford heading to Vanderbilt and Cal-State Fullerton visiting Fort Worth to visit TCU. Also, Georgia Tech is hosting St. John’s and Long Beach State hosting Arizona in some other series to watch. Continue reading
The 2010 NECBL All-Star Game took place this year at Cardines Field in Newport Rhode Island which serves as the home of the Newport Gulls franchise. The NECBL features players from power conference teams like Vanderbilt and Georgia while also having players from lesser known schools like Nova Southeastern and UMass-Lowell.
