2013 NCBWA Division I Poll (March 18)

NCBWA LogoDALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 16th year with its 2013 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 18-June 27 (weekly through June 11) following the 67th annual NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb., at TD Ameritade Park.

North Carolina (five consecutive weeks) and Arkansas (preseason No. 1) have held down the No. 1 position throughout the 2013 surveys. The poll voters come from 44 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. Continue reading


2013 CBD Mid-Major Poll (March 11th)

MidMajorLogo2012For 2nd time in 3 weeks the lead story is a mid-major traveling to one of top programs in the country and not just winning a series but sweeping a series. In week 2 FGCU swept Florida in Gainesville and in week four UNLV (13-3) enter the rankings at #15 with an impressive 4-0 week. The Rebels have won 9 games in row including the last three this weekend at the Sunken Diamond. UNLV started the week with a 14-1 win vs Hawaii to finish their own tourney the Rebel Classic. Friday the Rebels capitalized on Stanford errors pushing across 2 runs in the 2nd, another in the top 5th and hung on for the 3-2 win despite another great game from Stanford’s Mark Appel (7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 15 K). Saturday the Rebels pounded 15 hits in a 12-2 win and finished the sweep Sunday with a CG 2 hitter from So RHP John Richy (9.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) in a 5-1 win. Continue reading


2013 CBD Mid-Major Poll (Feb. 18th)

MidMajorLogo2012Opening weekend of the 2013 college baseball season saw some very good weekends, very bad weekends and plenty of bad weather for Mid-Majors across the country.

Missouri State (2-1) slides up to #1 after finishing 2-1in the Centurylink Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State. The Bears opened the season with a 3-2 win over Texas St and followed that up with a 3-2 win vs Sam Houston State on Saturday, but lost 6-4 to Tulane on Sunday. Friday’s game put Missouri State’s All-American RHP Nick Petree (5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K) vs Texas St’s All-American RHP Kyle Finnegan (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 11 K) with neither getting a decision as Missouri St scored a run in top of 9th for the 3-2 win…………..Louisville (2-1) drops down one spot to #2 after going 2-1 in the Big East/Big Ten Challenge in Florida. The Cardinals dropped the season opener to Indiana 2-0 but followed that up with a 10-1 win vs South Florida Saturday and a 9-4 win vs Purdue on Sunday. Continue reading
