MILB.com recently caught up with former Virginia pitcher Danny Hultzen who was the number two overall pick after posting a 1.37 ERA in 118 innings his junior year while leading the Cavaliers to the 2011 College World Series. Hultzen was selected in the 10th round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Diamondbacks but decided to head to college where he had an outstanding career with the Wahoos. The 6-8 225 pounder spent the last three years as a member of the basketball program averaging 13.5 points and finishing second in the Patriot League with 8.2 rebounds per game. La Velle E. Neal III of The Star-Tribune took to task the MLB Draft in his weekly column for the paper. As he states in the article, MLB teams committed 17 percent more to 2011 MLB Draft picks when compared to 2010. Quick note from ASU football practice Saturday as senior linebacker Brandon Magee ruptured an achilles tendon. Magee has appeared in 27 games with 3 starts as a DH and outfielder for Arizona State baseball over the past 3 seasons. The Dodges ended up selecting him in the 27th round of this year’s draft but Magee decided to return to school to complete his football career and eventually get drafted into the NFL.
