2011 ACC Baseball Tourney Day 4 Recap

#2 Florida State vs. #3 Georgia Tech

Mike McGee (3-3), Brian Busch and Daniel Bennett held Georgia Tech to two runs and catcher Rafael Lopez went 2-for-5 and scored twice as the Florida State Seminoles (42-16) held off a late rally by the Jackets to stay alive in the race for a spot in the ACC Tournament Championship game Sunday. Creighton wins 2011 MVC Championship with 3-1 win over Wichita State

OMAHA, Neb. – For just the second time in school history the Creighton baseball team ends the Missouri Valley Tournament as champions, defeating Wichita State 3-1 on Saturday night. Creighton’s pitching staff allowed just four hits on the day, surrendering the only run in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Jays win the first MVC Tournament title since 2007, earning the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Creighton (44-14) battled through the losers’ bracket to make it to the championship, defeating Missouri State twice to earn the right to play for the title. The Jays will learn their fate for the field of 64 on Monday at 11:30 with a selection show put on by the NCAA. Continue reading

HOOVER, Ala. – Arkansas scored the first five runs of the game, including four in the first inning, and the top five batters in the Arkansas order combined to go 12-for-22 with six runs scored and four RBI as the Razorbacks cruised to a 7-2 win over Mississippi State in an elimination game at the Southeastern Conference Tournament. In preparation for this week’s ACC Baseball Tournament, College Baseball Daily takes a look at eight participants.

Team with something to prove – As the ACC Tournament opens Virginia is considered virtually a lock for a top-8 national seed. But following a sweep in Chapel Hill last week and an OK performance against Miami the previous weekend, there are some doubters. Princeton wins 2011 Ivy League Championship; Clinch NCAA Bid

PRINCETON (5/8/11) – The Princeton baseball team completed its run to the 2011 Ivy League Baseball Championship with an 8-5 win in the third and decisive game of the Ivy League Championship Series on Sunday afternoon at Clarke Field. Steve Harrington drove in three runs and A.J. Goetz provided 4.2 solid innings of relief to pick up the win. Continue reading


Sun Belt Conference Announces New Baseball Tournament Format

NEW ORLEANS – Following one of the most successful seasons in Sun Belt Conference baseball history the SBC baseball coaches decided to implement a new tournament format for the upcoming 2011 SBC Baseball Championship.

The new round-robin format, which is similar in scope to the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, will feature eight of the ten SBC teams competing against each other in two four-team pools with the team with the best record in each pool advancing to the tournament’s championship game.
