Virginia wins 2011 ACC Championship

ACC Title Game – Virginia 7 vs. FSU 2

The top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers (49-8) swept their four games at the ACC baseball Tournament and claimed their third league title and second in the last three seasons with a 7 to 2 win over two-seeded Florida State. All three Virginia championships have been won at the Durham Bulls Park where the Hoos remained undefeated in the ACC Tournament play in three tournaments. Continue reading


2011 ACC Baseball Tourney Day 4 Recap

#2 Florida State vs. #3 Georgia Tech

Mike McGee (3-3), Brian Busch and Daniel Bennett held Georgia Tech to two runs and catcher Rafael Lopez went 2-for-5 and scored twice as the Florida State Seminoles (42-16) held off a late rally by the Jackets to stay alive in the race for a spot in the ACC Tournament Championship game Sunday. 2011 ACC Baseball Tournament Day 3 Recap

#1 Virginia vs. #5 Miami

Will Roberts went five strong innings over a nine-hour period and Branden Kline pitched the final inning and 2/3 as the Virginia Cavaliers (47-9) improved to 2-0 in pool A of the ACC Tournament.

Kenny Swab paced the hot-hitting Cavaliers going 4-for-5 including two doubles while delivering 4-RBI. Continue reading


CBD Column: 2011 ACC Tournament Preview

In preparation for this week’s ACC Baseball Tournament, College Baseball Daily takes a look at eight participants.

Team with something to prove – As the ACC Tournament opens Virginia is considered virtually a lock for a top-8 national seed. But following a sweep in Chapel Hill last week and an OK performance against Miami the previous weekend, there are some doubters. Virginia is 5-5 over its last 10 outings and over the last six have been outscored 23-13 dropping four of those contests. Continue reading
