The Boston College Eagles opened the 2008 season with a doubleheader sweep over Georgia Southern. In Game 1, BC won 11-7 and in game 2 the Eagles won 14-7
The Eagles were led in Game 1 by a strong freshmen class led by Marc Perdios who went 3-6 with a home run in his first collegiate at bat. Matt Hamlet hit a homer in the seventh inning to give the BC Eagles an 8-7 lead which they held on to for the victory. Garrett Smith was outstanding at shortstop defensively including several turns of double plays. He had a strong day at the plate as he went 3-5 with two runs scored. College of Charleston, 2007 Southern Conference regular-season co-champion, is the favorite to win the 2008 crown according to a vote of the league’s coaches. Wofford baseball player Charles Tutan Eller allegedly trying run a lady off the road on Wednesday evening. He is facing charges of Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature. The Charleston Post and Courier writer Ken Burger wrote an excellent article about John Pawlowski facing some a major challenge off the field. His 13-year old daughter Mary-Louise has been diagnosed with PNET (primitive neuroectodermal tumors) which is a rare form of cancer which only affects two percent of children with cancer. The coach talks about how difficult it was to tell his daughter she has cancer and other issues arising from the situation. The full article is available here.
