USA Baseball’s 60-man Midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. – USA Baseball released its 60-man midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List on Tuesday, bringing the organization one step closer to naming the top amateur baseball player in the country.

NCBWA National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 8, today. Clemson junior infielder Richie Shaffer was named National Hitter of the Week, while Memphis sophomore left-hander Sam Moll named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading

NCBWA March 27 National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)  released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 25, today. Baylor junior first baseman Max Muncy was named National Hitter of the Week, while Hartford freshman left-hander Sean Newcomb was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

LSU junior first baseman Mason Katz was named National Hitter of the Week, while Wake Forest junior left-hander Brian Holmes was named National Pitcher of the Week. USA Baseball Releases 2012 Preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List

(DURHAM, N.C.) — USA Baseball announced its preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List Thursday, marking the organization’s first step toward identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2012 for the 35th time.

South Carolina’s Chad Holbrook named the 2011 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina associate head baseball coach Chad Holbrook has been named the 2011 American Baseball Coaches Association/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year. Now in his fourth season as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the baseball program, Holbrook serves as hitting instructor, oversees the Gamecock offense, including base running and the short game, and is the third base coach. CBI Unveils Tom Walter College Baseball Inspiration Award

RICHMOND, Va. – Before the first pitch of the 2011 college baseball season, Wake Forest coach Tom Walter registered a save.

After an early-season practice, Walter surprised his team when he told his Demon Deacons that he was going to donate a kidney to freshman outfielder Kevin Jordan. A week later, Walter underwent surgery to remove his kidney, which was transplanted to Jordan. Continue reading

UCLA’s Trevor Bauer wins 2011 Golden Spikes Award
