NCBWA Names National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 8, today. Utah Valley senior first baseman Goose Kallunki was named National Hitter of the Week, while Oklahoma State junior left-hander Andrew Heaney was named National Pitcher of the Week. 2012 CBD Mid-Major Poll (March 19th)

For the second week in a row there is a new #1. TCU (11-6) moves up 2 spots to take over the top spot. The Horned Frogs had a perfect 5-0 week, beating Texas Tech on Tuesday, winning at UTSA Wednesday and sweeping UNLV on the road to open Mountain West play.

Carlos Lopez tries to avoid a tag.FULLERTON, Calif. — Maybe Cal State Fullerton should play all of its games on Sunday? For the third Sunday in a row, the Titans’ offense had double-digit hits and its best showing of the weekend.

The Titans (8-3) won their seventh straight game, finishing off the weekend sweep of Utah Valley State (2-8) with an 11-3 win Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field.

Caulfield was expected to begin his first season at NY Tech this spring replacing longtime head coach Bob Hirschfield who retired after 30 seasons with the Bears. Longtime NYIT Head Coach Bob Hirschfield Retires

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 21, 2011) – After 30 plus years of coaching the New York Institute of Technology baseball team, Bob Hirschfield announced his retirement in late September. Plans are being sought out to keep Hirschfield on staff in an advisory position. Current assistant coach Michael “Butch” Caulfield will serve as interim head coach for the upcoming 2012 season. Big 12 Weekend Preview (3/18-3/20)

It is finally opening weekend for the Big 12 Conference. Eight of the league’s ten teams are participating in conference series, with Missouri and Nebraska playing series against non-conference foes.

The conference matchup of the weekend is between #3 Oklahoma and #12 Texas A&M in Norman. Oklahoma was the winner of 16 straight games before hitting a three-game skid against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Arizona. Big 12 Weekend Preview

The Big 12 opens the week with a promising schedule. Texas Tech hosts a tournament, while Nebraska and Missouri are both participating in tournaments away from home. No. 6 Texas plays host to Maryland, with No. 5 Oklahoma playing host to William and Mary. Most of the other match-ups favor the Big 12 teams, including no. 32 Baylor/Oral Roberts, no. 16 Texas A&M/LeMoyne, Oklahoma State/Bryant and Kansas State/Pacific. Unfortunately, Kansas travels to Fort Worth to take on no. 3 TCU, which won’t be good for the early season record.

Northern Colorado releases 2011 Schedule

GREELEY, Colo. – First-year head coach Carl Iwasaki is excited to begin his first spring at the University of Northern Colorado and feels the schedule is well tailored to the 2011 team.

Former Northern Colorado Baseball Coach Investigated by Police

KevinSmallcombHeadshotFormer Northern Colorado head coach Kevin Smallcomb was investigated by the Greeley (CO) Police following allegations of financial improprieties from the school back in August. Smallcomb refused to speak with the authorities and charges were never brought in the case.
