Division 2 College Baseball News Poll for Feb. 25th

The Division 2 poll by The College Baseball News that came out on Feb. 25th is led by Mount Olive who has taken over the top spot in the poll with a 16-1 record. Ouachita Baptist is ranked second in the country with an solid record of 12-1. Two-time defending national champion and former number 1 team in the country Tampa is ranked number 3. Ouachita Baptist completes series sweep of Fort Hays State

ARKADELPHIA – Chase Baran pitched seven innings of shutout baseball as Ouachita Baptist held off a late rally to complete a three-game sweep of Fort Hays State with a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field.

Baran scattered four hits, walked four and struck out seven to run his record to 3-0. Jerry Helferich pitched a perfect eighth, paving the way for Patrick Lemmond. Lemmond struggled in the ninth, giving up a pair of runs on three hits with a walk, but got the final batter he faced to bounce out to second to end the game.

Destan Makonnen belts three HRs in doubleheader sweep!

ARKADELPHIA – Destan Makonnen belted three two-run home runs as the third-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team took two from Fort Hays State, 2-1 and 11-3, Saturday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field.

In the opener, Steve Smith (2-1) pitched eight innings to pick up the win. He surrendered a run on three hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. Patrick Lemmond earned his sixth save after working the ninth.

St. Edwards Hilltoppers down Texas A&M-Kingsville

AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward’s extended its winning streak to eight games Tuesday afternoon, knocking off Texas A&M-Kingsville, 5-1, at Nolan Ryan Field.

St. Edward’s (8-3) got on the board first when left fielder Bradley Goldsmith led off the game with a single through the left side and came around to score on a Texas A&M-Kingsville (6-3) throwing error. The Hilltoppers tacked on another two runs in the second inning when Goldsmith delivered a two-run single to left field.

Bryant splits on Monday

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Bryant University baseball team wrapped up its season-opening weekend in Florida with a 1-1 day on Sunday, completing the sweep of Northeast-10 rival Bentley College while dropping another contest to host Rollins College.

The Bulldogs took an 8-7 win over the Falcons in the first game on 5-of-5 hitting from senior captain Jason Alexander (two RBI, one run scored) and 3-of-6 hitting from sophomore Taylor Ferguson (one run). Continue reading Bryant splits on Monday

Ouachita Baptist baseball sweeps past Truman State

ARKADELPHIA – After a slow start, the second-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Truman State Sunday afternoon, defeating the Bulldogs 5-2 and 18-0, at Rab Rodgers Field.

In the opener, Chase Baron, Jerry Helferich and Patrick Lemmond shut down Truman State (0-3).

Bryant splits another Doubleheader

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Sophomore first baseman Garrett Stenhouse (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim HS) had four hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer during a six-run seventh, but Bentley’s comeback bid came up just short as the Falcons dropped a 10-9 decision to Bryant University in non-conference college baseball Sunday afternoon at Rollins College’s Alfond Stadium. Bryant splits Season Opening Doubleheader

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Bryant University baseball team opened up its 2008 season with a convincing 12-3 victory over Northeast-10 rival Bentley College in Game One of a Saturday doubleheader played at Rollins College.

Ouachita Baptist split pair with Northeastern State.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The second-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team got good pitching performances by Steve Smith and Sean O’Rourke as the Tigers split a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, losing the opener 3-2, but taking the second contest, 11-8 at Rousy Field.

In the second contest, Ouachita Baptist (7-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a Justin Pennell two-run homer. However, Northeastern State (4-4) tied the game in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run shot by Justin Delay.

Franklin Pierce Unanimous Top Choice in NCBWA Northeast Preseason Poll

RINDGE, N.H. (February 4, 2008) – Franklin Pierce University is the unanimous top choice in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America’s (NCBWA) Division II Northeast Regional preseason poll. Franklin Pierce, the defending Northeast Region and Northeast-10 regular season and tournament champions, received all nine first place votes by the committee. East Coast Conference regular season and tournament champion Adelphi University was picked second with 73 points. Northeast region and NE-10 Tournament runners-up Bryant University is third, followed by the University of Massachusetts Lowell in fourth and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions Caldwell College rounds out the top five.
