#2 Ole Miss goes down

Arkansas State surprised Ole Miss on Wednesday as they went into Swayze Field and knocked off the Rebels by a score of 7-5. The Rebels are currently ranked number 2 in the nation by the NCBWA and heading into a big series against the TCU Horned Frogs but forgot to show up on Wednesday evening as they committed four errors. Ryan Hudgins of Arkansas State went 3-5 with 2 RBI to lead the Indians to the upset victory. Continue reading

Florida Gulf Coast 5 South Florida 4

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team fell, 5-4, Tuesday night to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Red McEwen Field.

The Bulls’ record drops to 3-4, while the Eagles improve to 8-1.

USF’s offensive attack came in the first two innings after falling behind by two after the top of the first. Redshirt freshman Ryan Lockwood spearheaded the Bulls’ offensive charge with a lead-off walk. Junior counterparts Brandon Smith and Addison Maruszak followed with a walk and a hit by pitch to fill the bases. Junior Trey Manz then hit a one-out sac fly to score Lockwood and put the Bulls on the board. Continue reading

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boston College baseball team could only manage four hits off four different Florida Atlantic pitchers, falling 4-3, Tuesday night at FAU Stadium. The Eagles are now 5-4 on the season, while FAU improves to 6-3.

FAU threatened in the both first and second innings against BC starter Ted Ratliff (0-1). The senior right-hander was able to work around a hit and four walks in the first two frames to keep the Owls scoreless. Continue reading

Eagles soar over Panthers

The Boston College Eagles knocked off the Florida International Panthers 7-3 behind a strong pitching performance from Nick Asselin as he went seven strong innings while allowing only three hits and three unearned runs to pick up his first victory of the season to put his overall record at 1-1. Mike Augustine of Boston College hit his first homer of the year in the second inning while Barry Butera hit his third of the year in the seventh inning to give Boston College a 3-2 lead which they would give right back to the Panthers in the bottom of the inning in which Eric Campbell committed his second error of the game which led to the tying run scoring. Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State (6-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 4-3 victory over Auburn (4-3) in front of a crowd of 6,544, the fourth largest crowd to witness a game at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles got seven shutout innings from senior Ryan Strauss and three solo home runs on Saturday afternoon to win their third straight game over the Tigers this season. Continue reading

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Boston College (2-1, 0-0 ACC) baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series to Georgia Southern (1-2, 0-0 SoCon), 18-6, Sunday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium. BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior center fielder Seth Williams and sophomore left fielder Dustin Ackley hit two home runs apiece to lead No. 2 North Carolina to a 7-1 season-opening win over Florida Atlantic Friday at FAU Stadium.
