Eagles soar over Panthers

The Boston College Eagles knocked off the Florida International Panthers 7-3 behind a strong pitching performance from Nick Asselin as he went seven strong innings while allowing only three hits and three unearned runs to pick up his first victory of the season to put his overall record at 1-1. Mike Augustine of Boston College hit his first homer of the year in the second inning while Barry Butera hit his third of the year in the seventh inning to give Boston College a 3-2 lead which they would give right back to the Panthers in the bottom of the inning in which Eric Campbell committed his second error of the game which led to the tying run scoring. Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State (6-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 4-3 victory over Auburn (4-3) in front of a crowd of 6,544, the fourth largest crowd to witness a game at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles got seven shutout innings from senior Ryan Strauss and three solo home runs on Saturday afternoon to win their third straight game over the Tigers this season. Continue reading

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Boston College (2-1, 0-0 ACC) baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series to Georgia Southern (1-2, 0-0 SoCon), 18-6, Sunday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium. Barry Butera was the bright spot offensively for the Eagles. The second baseman registered a 3-for-5 day with a 2-run homer and three RBIs. Continue reading

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior center fielder Seth Williams and sophomore left fielder Dustin Ackley hit two home runs apiece to lead No. 2 North Carolina to a 7-1 season-opening win over Florida Atlantic Friday at FAU Stadium. Sophomore right-hander Alex White picked up the victory for the Tar Heels, who improved to 10-0 in season openers under head coach Mike Fox. Continue reading

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Preseason Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year Danny Farquhar allowed two hits, while striking out nine and walking four across six strong innings and Justin Robichaux came on to strike out the side in the ninth inning as 19th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette survived a scare from Army, winning 2-1 in the opening game of the UTSA Baseball Classic at Wolff Stadium. Kentucky set to open in Coca-Cola Classic

New Mexico State set to host New Orleans

The New Mexico State Aggies will host the New Orleans Privateers on Friday in the first game of a three game set. The Aggies are coming off a 22-34 season while going 6-18 in the WAC. New Orleans is coming off a Sun Belt championship which saw them participate in the Wichita State Regional where they went 1-2. The Privateers are led by Johnny Giavotella who has been named to several All-American teams. Continue reading

UTSA Tourney Preview

The University of Texas-San Antonio is hosting a great tournament on the opening weekend. Joining the Roadrunners this season is Army, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas Tech, and Oral Roberts. The Red Raiders were a late addition to the tournament as Northern Illinois backed out of a three game set due to the tragedies on their campus last year. Continue reading

Texas Tech added to UTSA Baseball Classic

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have been added to the UTSA Baseball Classic this weekend after having to cancel their series against Northern Illinois after the tragedies that took place on that campus last week. The Red Raiders will open up play against Louisiana on Saturday at 10 am. They will then play Army on Sunday at 10 am and finish play against UTSA on Monday at 2 pm. CSTV checks in on Turtle Thomas

CSTV editor Doug Kroll recently checked in on new Florida International coach Turtle Thomas. He has been one of the most successful coaches in the country as he has been to the CWS 14 times in his great assistant coaching career. His most recent stop was at Arizona State where he helped coach the Sun Devils to the CWS last season. He has also spent time with Georgia Tech, LSU, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Miami (FL) over the last 30 years. The full article is available here.
