OU, Nevada, Davidson, Temple, and JMU pick up wins

TAMPA, Fla. — Sophomore Chase Anderson struck out six batters and junior Trey Sperring had three RBIs in Oklahoma’s 6-1 victory on Tuesday over South Florida at Red McEwen field. The win improved the Sooners’ overall record to 16-5 while the Bulls fell to 10-7.

In his fourth start of the year, Anderson delivered his best outing as a Sooner, striking out a season-high six batters. Anderson (2-1), who struggled in his last start allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings against Washington State, limited the Bulls’ offense on Tuesday to one run off five hits and two walks. One of the top matchups on Tuesday night is when the College of Charleston Cougars visit The Citadel in a battle between the two Charleston SC schools. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore Nick McCully (Lakeland, Fla./Santa Fe Catholic) allowed just a bunt single in the first inning while striking out nine in the Coastal Carolina University baseball team’s (8-1) 6-0 win over George Mason (1-6) March 2 in the final game of the Baseball at the Beach Tournament at BB&T Coastal Field.

McCully allowed just one walk and tied his career high in strikeouts while improving his record to 2-0 on the year. Continue reading

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Sophomore Jay Honeycutt was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for the Davidson baseball team, but Virginia Tech used a six-run eighth inning to post a 14-10 victory over the Wildcats at Wilson Field Wednesday afternoon.

Chase FitzPatrick was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs for Davidson (2-3), and Hugh Eden collected four hits and scored two runs. Brett Shore had three hits on the afternoon, while Danny Weiss had two, including a double. Continue reading
