ACC Recap for April 2nd

MIAMI, Fla. – Sophomore right-hander David Gutierrez no-hit Florida International for the first three innings and No. 2 Miami erupted for 11 runs during those innings as the Hurricanes cruised past the Golden Panthers, 13-2, at University Park Wednesday night. Arizona State defeats Wofford 9 to 3

Ike Davis (Tempe, AZ) – Visiting Wofford College, the 2007 Southern Conference Champions, quickly discovered why Arizona State University is the consensus number one ranked team in the nation as the Sun Devils quickly built a 6 to 0 lead by the end of the second inning.

Terriers starter John Cornley began the game by throwing eight straight balls and therefore walked Devils leadoff hitter Jason Kipnis and two hole batter Ike Davis. However Cornley managed to find the zone against Brett Wallace and got him to strike out before clean up hitter Kiel Roling doubled down the left field line, scoring Kipnis. Mid-Week Game Notes

We have some interesting Mid-Week games coming up on Tuesday which is highlighted by Clemson and Georgia playing a home and home series. The College of Charleston will play against cross town rival Charleston Southern while Alabama will play two games against UAB, Ohio State plays Toledo, Coastal Carolina will play against Wake Forest and Elon. Columbia, S.C. – Freshman right-handed pitcher Sam Dyson struck out eight batters in a career-high seven innings and Reese Havens hit his seventh home run of the year as South Carolina defeated College of Charleston 5-3 on Wednesday evening at Sarge Frye Field. The Gamecocks improve to 16-6 on the year while the loss drops College of Charleston to 16-8. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Freshman catcher Yasmani Grandal drove in the game-winning run after junior Dave DiNatale hit a two-run game-tying single in the bottom of the eighth as No. 2 Miami rallied to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 7-6, Wednesday night at Mark Light Field. Northeastern, Southern Illinois, Kentucky, Coastal, and Temple pick up wins

Junior Frank Pesanello hit what was the eventual game-winning, pinch-hit, three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to guide the Northeastern University baseball team to an 8-6 victory over the Rhode Island Rams at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, Rhode Island on Tuesday evening.

Pesanello’s homer was his sixth of the season, putting him second on the team behind captain Mike Lyon, who has eight on the season. Lyon, who has been anchoring the Husky attack all season, led the team with three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. TAMPA, Fla. — Sophomore Chase Anderson struck out six batters and junior Trey Sperring had three RBIs in Oklahoma’s 6-1 victory on Tuesday over South Florida at Red McEwen field. The win improved the Sooners’ overall record to 16-5 while the Bulls fell to 10-7.

In his fourth start of the year, Anderson delivered his best outing as a Sooner, striking out a season-high six batters. Anderson (2-1), who struggled in his last start allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings against Washington State, limited the Bulls’ offense on Tuesday to one run off five hits and two walks.
