Great article about the 2009 MLB Draft

We recently ran across an article out of the Seattle Times that talks about some of the best prospects for the 2009 draft. Larry Stone wrote the article where he talks with a CBB reader in Keith Law of ESPN and John Manuel of Baseball America. Both of them clearly state that Stephen Strasburg is the top player in the 2009 draft after competing on the 2008 Olympic team and lighting up radar guns during the 2008 collegiate season. Lobo baseball head coach Ray Birmingham recently announced the University of New Mexico schedule for 2009. The Lobos will face five Top 25 teams from 2008, including NCAA College World Series semifinalist Stanford.

“This schedule will be tougher than last season,” said Birmingham. “We played 22 games last season against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. If we are going to be nationally-ranked and advance to the post-season, we have to play these high-caliber teams to get there.”

USA vs Cuba Live Stream

The United States Olympic Baseball team is taking on the Cuban Olympic team in the semifinals of the Olympic Baseball Tournament at 6 am Eastern time on Friday. The United States is expected to start San Diego State junior to be Stephen Strasberg to the mound where he was outstanding against the Netherlands in his only Olympic start. Rick McCarty Joins Redhawks Baseball Coaching Staff

Southeast Missouri State head baseball coach Mark Hogan announced today that Rick McCarty will join the Redhawks coaching staff as the new pitching coach in the 2008-09 season. McCarty has five years of previous coaching experience, all coming at NCAA Division II Delta State University. FULL STORY

2009 Baseball Schedule for the BYU Cougars

The BYU Cougars open the season on the road in Stillwater, Oklahoma on February 20th against the OSU Cowboys and then play Manhattan College on Saturday in Stillwater. The Cougars will then make a trip to Waco to play the Baylor Bears in a two game set on Monday and Tuesday before returning home to play their first home game of the season against Portland in a 3 game set starting on Thursday the 26th of February.

Team USA opens play on Friday with a game against Korea at 4:30 am eastern time. They have a perfect record this summer of 16-0 after winning Haarlem Baseball Week. CBB Column: Thoughts on 2008 Olympic Team

I know we don’t cover Minor League baseball in general but the 2008 USA Baseball Team was announced today with a bunch of players with collegiate experience in the last few seasons including one player who will be entering his junior season at San Diego State in the fall. 2009 Schedules for Utah and Oregon

I know it is early but we have come across two schedules for the 2009 season.

The first one is the University of Oregon who returns to playing College Baseball after a long absence. They will be led by longtime Cal-State Fullerton coach George Horton who is assembling a great team for the Ducks. They will open the season on Feb. 20th when they start a four game set at Saint Mary’s. The Ducks will open up their new home stadium on Feb. 27th against defending National Champion Fresno State as they visit for a three game set.
