On Saturday night, Binghamton coming out of the loser’s bracket grabbed a 4-3 win in a hotly contested victory over Stony Brook that ended up finishing at 11:39 pm forcing a winner take all game on Sunday afternoon at noon.
Could the the two teams compete with Saturday night’s classic? I doubted it as I made the trip to the stadium. I was totally wrong as both teams came out and played some of the most passionate baseball you could ever see on Sunday in Lowell, Massachusetts. Continue reading

Binghamton’s Greg Ostner pitched a complete game shutout to advance the Bearcats to the America East Championship Round where they will take on Stony Brook later this afternoon. Ostner scattered six hits allowing only one walk while striking out four batters. The Hawks could never get their offense together with many quick at-bats.
The Bearcats offense though came flying out of the gates scoring four runs before an out was recorded against Hartford’s Kyle Gauthier. They finished the inning with five runs knocking out Gauthier after only an inning of work. Continue reading
The Stony Brook Seawolves used a 12 hit attack to defeat the Hartford Hawks 10-6 which advanced them to the America East Final on Saturday evening. Continue reading
Shaun McGraw went 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBI as he helped lead the Binghamton Bearcats to a 6-3 victory over Maine in Game 3 of the America East Tournament.
The Maine Black Bears came out in the first inning with two runs scored on a Scott Heath RBI triple and a Troy Black single to center. Continue reading
Hartford junior left-handed pitcher Sean Newcomb dominated the Binghamton Bearcats in game two of the America East tournament as the Hawks picked up the 6-1 victory. Continue reading
Anthony Italiano ripped a line drive down the left field line that brought home Casey Baker from second to give the Seawolves the early 2-1 win and helped lead them to a 4-1 victory.
The game lived up to the fanfare as Stony Brook’s Frankie Vanderka and Tommy Lawrence dueled throughout the game. Vanderka gave up only one run on eight hits while pitching the complete game. Lawrence gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits while pitching eight innings. Continue reading
In three years, Sean Newcomb has done a lot for the Hartford baseball program.
His pitching perfection started earlier this season with a 0.00 ERA through his first six starts. This has brought on intense media attention while having MLB scouts to campus to the Hawks’ (18-14 overall, 6-2 America East) games, giving the program a boost in attention and his teammates who had not yet reached scouts’ radars a chance to grab their eye. MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 23 today. William & Mary junior infielder Michael Katz was named National Hitter of the Week, while Stony Brook’s senior right-handed pitcher Frankie Vanderka was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading
