Texas A&M pitcher John Stilson sidelined with torn labrum

It was announced today that Texas A&M starting pitcher John Stilson will need surgery to repair a torn labrum. The injury supposedly occurred during the Aggies’ May 5th contest against Dallas Baptist, with Stilson continuing to pitch through the Big 12 Tournament.

No word yet on how this injury and surgery may impact Stilson’s chances in the draft next Monday. Stilson is currently projected to be a first round pick, with a chance to go in the top 15 picks.

NCBWA Announces 2011 Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalists


IRVINE, Calif. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, working in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the College Baseball Foundation, has released the list of semifinalists for the 2011 Dick Howser Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate baseball.

2011 National Pitcher of the Year Watch List

The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced today the quarterfinalists for the 2011 Pitcher of the Year Award. The list features 25 of the nation’s finest Division I pitchers.

2011 John Olerud Award Watch List

The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced today the names of 25 players from across the country featured on the watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

The Olerud Award, which recognizes a player who makes an impact both on the mound and at the plate, will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions. Continue reading

TCU’s Matt Purke Injured

TCU’s Matt Purke has been shutdown for the time being with a shoulder injury as he visited famed orthopedist James Andrew this week. Purke’s velocity all season has been way down barely touching 90 MPH in some of his starts. Last season, he had an outstanding freshman season which saw him go 16-0 with a 3.02 ERA while bringing the Horned Frogs to the school’s first CWS appearance. CBD Column: Hultzen and Bradley Passing Purke?

Coming into the season, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Matt Purke was the top draft eligible left-handed pitcher for the 2011 MLB Draft. 2011 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

March 10, 2011- The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John’s Pizza.

Forty-two catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. Because the award is given annually to the top division one catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 6, 2011.  Continue reading


USD Tournament Scouting Report and Review
