College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today at number 92 with Dallas Baptist pitcher Drew Smith. Heading into his sophomore year, Smith looks to improve on his performance from his freshman campaign. In his first season with the Patriots, Smith totaled only 11.2 IP while posting a 5.40 ERA.

Smith, a right-hander from Crowley, Texas, ranked as the fifth best prospect in the Alaska league. He moved into a new role this summer as he became the closer for the Mat-Su Miners. With this opportunity, Smith showed his talent as a top prospect by striking out 17 batters in 18 innings of work as well as posting 5 saves which was good for third most in the Alaska Baseball League. Drew Smith was one of four DBU pitchers that earned recognition from Baseball America.

Smith hopes to be a key contributor to a Patriot pitching staff that has proven to be stock full of talent. The Patriots will open the 2014 season as the first year members of the Missouri Valley Conference after spending one season in the Western Athletic Conference.
