Top 100 Countdown: 9. Colby Suggs (Arkansas)

SuggsCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 9 on our Top 100 Countdown is Arkansas’s Colby Suggs. The 6’0 right-handed relief pitcher from Sulphur Springs, Texas has a career ERA of just 1.22 at Arkansas.

As a freshman, Suggs made 12 appearances in relief for the Razorbacks. In his 20 innings pitched, he allowed only eight hits on the season, posting a record of 2-1 and an ERA of just .90. Suggs also limited opposition to just a .113 batting average as he struck out 22 on the year.

His success continued into his sophomore year as he made 30 appearances going 7-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.38. In his 39 innings pitched he allowed just six runs, holding opposition to a batting average of .203 and striking out 36.

During the summer o 2012, Suggs played for the Wareham Gateman of the prestigious Cape Cod League. In his 13 appearances, Suggs held opposition to a .138 batting average while posting an ERA of 1.37 as helped lead the Gateman to a Cape Cod League championship.

From a scouting perspective, Suggs is one of the top relief pitchers in the 2013 MLB draft class. His consistently low ERA paired with his excellent control make him an ideal closer. In addition, his repertoire is highlighted by his fastball that touches 98 mph. His control, heat and consistency make him one of the top players to watch for in 2013.
